Minnesota- Summer 2013

I-scream, you-scream, we all scream for ice cream!

Are you crazy for ice cream? If so, this list of Best Ice Cream Shops in America from Thrillist might help you find some tasty places to try out.

When I saw the title of the article, I had to check it out. Lucas has always liked ice cream but his love for it went to a new level during our trip to Japan (late June/ early July 2013). Shops in Japan are slick and have a great way of letting you know that ice cream is for sale. Most shops that sell ice cream leave giant, fake cones outside or hanging from the building to let you know they sell the frozen treat.

Seven of the World’s Riskiest Roads

a close up of a logo

A couple of months back I wrote a post about the 10 Worst Places To Drive In the World (according to the Huffington Post).

After quite a few comments, I decided to run a poll and find out what your thoughts were on the topic. Mumbai, India was the ovewhelming winner, taking 35% of the votes.

I just came across another article, this time from BBC Travel which is related to the topic of suspect driving around the world. Continue reading Seven of the World’s Riskiest Roads

TSA Finds Sharp Throwing Star At Dallas-Love Field

a close up of words

A little over a week back I wrote about a dangerous items that the TSA found at the airport in Boston.

The TSA found another interesting item at the airport. The item was once again shared by the @TSABlogTeam on Twitter.

When I read what the item was, it brought back memories from when I was around 10 years old. Continue reading TSA Finds Sharp Throwing Star At Dallas-Love Field

10 Places To Go This Summer

Fodor'sFodor’s wants to help you decide on where to go this summer.  They’ve come up with a list of 10 can’t miss destinations for summer 2014.

The destinations vary quite a bit. From the World Cup in Brazil to Vienna Jazz Fest or destinations closer to home like the Aspen Ideas Festival and Glacier Skywalk in the Canadian Rockies (which I’d LOVE to go to). Some destinations with new hotels also made the list. Continue reading 10 Places To Go This Summer

How Much Of The U.S. Have You Seen?

a mountain range with trees and textI like to consider myself a well-traveled person. During our travels, we try to see lots of sites and come away with lots of great, local experiences.

However, when it comes to seeing the United States, I feel like I haven’t seen nearly enough of the country. I didn’t have a ton of interest in exploring the US up until the past few years. On some of our local trip, I’ve definitely been impressed, especially during our week spent traveling around South Dakota. Continue reading How Much Of The U.S. Have You Seen?

9 Scenic Train Rides Around the World

Like most little boys, Lucas loves trains. He first started saying the word (train) last June during our trip to Japan. We went all over the country, getting great use out of our rail pass and Lucas loved it!

I don’t know what it is about trains and train toys (like Thomas & Chuggington), but just about all boys love them!

Besides our trip to Japan, we haven’t done many trips which included extensive use of the rails. The only other trip for Kim and I that comes to mind would be taking the trip up to Aguas Caliente in Peru to see Macchu Picchu.

Conde Naste Traveler came up with a slideshow featuring Scenic Train Rides Around the World. Continue reading 9 Scenic Train Rides Around the World

Best Balloon Rides In The World

hot air balloons in the skyGrowing up I always felt that hot air balloons looked like fun and  always wanted to take a ride in one. Back in 2010 I got the chance to do so during a trip to Turkey and it didn’t disappoint.

I didn’t know quite what to expect. Would it be a pricey mistake or one of the most amazing experiences?

When we got to the balloon launch area, it was pretty crazy. There were dozens of balloons being prepared for flight which in itself was an interesting sight to see. Once we lifted off it was pure, amazing fun. Gliding in the air over buildings and while seeing the famous chimneys of Cappadocia, you might just think that you were on another planet!

17 Airline Snacks To Eat Right Now

a pile of different snacks
image from T+L article

When it comes to airline snacks, a couple of thoughts come to mind: Will there even be a snack served ? If so, will it be the usual small bag of pretzels or peanuts?

Southwest offers small bags of pretzels or if you’re lucky you might get some plane cookies. I’ve only had the cookies (very similar to Teddy Grahams) on a couple of flights.

When flying Air Berlin we got an interesting treat at the end of the flight. The flight attendants gave out really tasty chocolate hearts while leaving the plane.

The best bet is to come prepared with your own stash of snacks just in case the selection on board isn’t so great. Kim and I try to bring along some snack for ourself and Lucas during each trip. It’s definitely best not to be caught unprepared (especially when traveling with a little one).

a woman feeding a pig in the water

Over the years Kim and I have had many amazing and memorable animal-related experiences while traveling. A couple of years back I wrote a post about My Top 5 Animal Encounters. We also had a great time during Our First American Safari in Custer State Park in South Dakota. During our time in Custer, we had an interesting time Hanging With the Burros

Besides the experiences mentioned above, we’ve also been on safaris in Namibia, Kenya & Uganda and also had some other great experiences in South Africa.
