A Stop On The Anthony Bourdain Food Trail: Hiram’s Roadstand

Anthony BourdainThe late Anthony Bourdain has inspired many around the world to make food a big part of their travels.

While planning to visit new places, I look for ideas where to eat based on places featured on Food/ Travel shows. Places recommended by Anthony Bourdain tend to just about always be really good.

On the New Jersey episode of Parts Unknown (which aired back in 2015), Bourdain visited Hiram’s Roadstand in Fort Lee. Since seeing the episode, I’ve wanted to visit. Continue reading A Stop On The Anthony Bourdain Food Trail: Hiram’s Roadstand

This Travel Souvenir Has Been Getting A Lot Of Use Thanks To COVID-19

SouvenirAs the years go by, we tend to buy fewer and fewer souvenirs during our travels. It seems like we usually see similar junk for sale in many countries.

We typically buy the kids small souvenirs which can create great memories. (Like this one from Costa Rica.) I like to buy t-shirts from time to time and also add to my hat and mask collections when something catches my eye. When visiting an international destination, I always make it a point to visit McDonald’s.

Besides being a real treat for my kids, I love seeing what interesting (and sometimes local) menu items might be offered.

I’ve also been to some very interesting looking McDonald’s. A couple that stand out is one with Maori cavings in New Zealand and another in Pennsylvania which has a train car attached to it! Continue reading Bad News: Unique McDonald’s Times Square Closing For Good

During our visit, we saw lots of wildlife including elephants, peacocks, monkeys, mongeese and more. While driving back towards the capital Colombo (during our last day), we made a stop at the Sea Turtle Research Project in Bentota for another animal experience. Lonely Planet To Collaborate With Apple Maps To Add Interesting Feature!

Apple MapsI couldn’t imagine driving without navigation apps on my iPhone. We also use them quite a bit while exploring destinations at home and abroad.

There are some decisions to be made when deciding on which map to use. The primary options are Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps.

For everyday driving, I always use Waze since it alerts us of traffic cameras and police. If we’re walking or looking to map the distance between places, I go with Google Maps. Continue reading Lonely Planet To Collaborate With Apple Maps To Add Interesting Feature!

Popeyes Chicken SandwichPopeye’s Chicken Sandwich debuted late last summer and it became an instant hit. People were literally fighting to get their hands on it  and eventually it sold out. It took months before the sandwich returned to stores.

We were away when the sandwich came out so the day it returned I headed over the the local Popeye’s to finally give it a try. I wasn’t impressed with the sandwich at first and felt that this sandwich was better. Continue reading Get A FREE Popeyes Chicken Sandwich For A Limited Time
