America’s Oldest Bars

a sign on a buildingBeer and history can both play a big role in determining what we do while we travel and discover a new place.

Many travel for beer to places like Germany and Belgium, while others might visit breweries around the country. I’ve done trips to Germany & Belgium primarily for beer and have also visited loads of breweries around the world.

When visiting a new place, unless you’re spending most of your time at the beach, there is a good chance that you will be visiting lots of historical sites. You might visit old towns, buildings, museums… Continue reading America’s Oldest Bars

Best Airport Food in the World

In recent years, airport food has been greatly improving. Some airports are offering gourmet and high-end food while others have what I like to call higher-end fast food.

We used to always bring lots of snacks and sometimes even a small meal to eat while waiting for our flights to take off, but these days it might be worth checking out what the airport has to offer in terms of tasty, sometimes gourmet food.

(Check out Eater’s Airport Dining Guides to find out the best of what some airports have to offer.) Continue reading Best Airport Food in the World

Top 10 Coffee Growing Countries + Free Dunkin’ Coffee

a map of the world made of coffee beansFind out at the end of the post how to get free coffee today, September 29!

When it comes to coffee, I’ve never been too interested. I don’t like the smell or taste and for that matter I don’t really care for hot beverages. However, I do find it interesting how beans are grown all over the world, making for a wide variety of flavors.

To Protect And Serve…Pizza

two police officers holding a pizza box

I came across a great story which has to do with my favorite food, pizza.

The police might be going through an all-time low in popularity around the U.S. due to a couple of recent incidents which led to fatalities.

However, the police do stick their necks out on the line, day in and day out for us. When I think of the police, the motto- To Protect and Serve usually comes to mind. Continue reading To Protect And Serve…Pizza

A Unique Food at McDonald’s Romania

a poster on a wall

I’ve written a bunch of times about how I love to visit McDonald’s when visiting a new country but rarely ever eat there at home.

Food is a big part of travel but sometimes it’s nice to eat something that reminds you of home (especially the Heinz ketchup!). However, the main reason that I have to visit McDonald’s when traveling is to see if there are any menu items which are not available at home which might be unique or a variation of a local dish. 10 Weirdest Restaurants in the World

a couple of women sitting at a table

A couple of years back I wrote a short post about Bizarre Restaurants Around the World. I haven’t thought much about these restaurants since writing the post until writing about how you can Dine With An Unusual Guest in Japan.

If I had to think of a bizarre restaurant that we’ve eaten at I’d probably go with one that isn’t all that strange. Years back, while in Budapest we went to a restaurant called Sir Lancelot. Continue reading 10 Weirdest Restaurants in the World

The Sweetest Ending To A Flight

Air Berlin Chocolate Heart

During our trip Back to The Balkans we flew with Air Berlin to get to/ from our destinations. Over the past couple of years we’ve flown with the airline a few times, finding award availability using our American Airlines AAdvantage miles.

If Air Berlin wasn’t a member of oneworld (making it a partner of AA) our summer trip to the Balkans and last years trip to Germany for Oktoberfest may have not even happened.

The thing about Air Berlin is that we’ve found the seats on their planes (in coach) to be some of the most uncomfortable for international flights. Continue reading The Sweetest Ending To A Flight

Where is Anthony Bourdain Going on Parts Unknown

I’ve long been a fan of Anthony Bourdain but I tend to go back and forth when it comes to watching his shows.

Since Bourdain left The Travel Channel for CNN I’ve only caught a few episodes of his newer series Parts Unknown. The thing is, since I rarely watch CNN I tend to forget when his shows is actually on!

Overall, I really enjoy Bourdain’s travel- food themed take on locations both at home and abroad. (However his sarcasm can be annoying at times.) Continue reading Where is Anthony Bourdain Going on Parts Unknown

Top Fall Trips For Foodies

Fodor's

I think most of you would agree that food plays a very big part when it comes to travel.

I’ve never taken a local cooking course or went on a trip with the main reason being the food. (I have had a few trips inspired by beer in the past though!) However, Kim and I have gone on our own mini-food tours during trips in the past.

Here are a few that come to mind:

  • Trying lobster rolls (and whoopie pies) in Maine
  • Eating lots of pizza around Rome
  • Trying some of New Haven’s great apizza
  • Sampling some great cheesesteaks in Philadelphia
  • A never-ending quest to try out the best pizza and burgers around Brooklyn and NYC for that matter.
