Street Signs Aren’t Always What They Seem

a blue sign with an umbrella and an arrow

Over the years I’ve always been fascinated by street signs. When I say this I’m not talking about your typical stop signs or other common ones.

Signs that appeared to be strange, odd and maybe even a bit ridiculous alway seemed to stand out. However, maybe these signs aren’t really what they seem to be.

It’s Hard Traveling Without Your Toddler

Back to The Balkans- Days 2 & 3- On to Romania & The Castles of Transylvania 6Kim and I just got back from Las Vegas where I attended the BoardingArea Conference otherwise known as BAcon.

There wasn’t a ton of time for play during this trip since I was in meetings most of the time. This didn’t really bother me all too much since this wasn’t my first trip to Vegas but something just didn’t seem right.  Continue reading It’s Hard Traveling Without Your Toddler

10 Things Not to Do at Disney World

Disney World isn’t a place that I have much of a desire to visit but due to a special little guy, I might just have to suck it up and go at some point in the not so distant future.

I had the chance to visit Disneyland in California when I was around 10 or 11 years old but have never been to Disney World. I don’t really remember much about my visit to Disneyland so to me that speaks volumes to say how little I probably enjoyed it. Continue reading 10 Things Not to Do at Disney World

European Cities with Cheapest Five-Star Hotels

I wouldn’t claim to be a Five-Star Hotel kind of guy.

Since we always like to stretch our budget (both when using miles & points and when paying), an easy way to save money during a trip is by staying at budget accommodations like guesthouses, hostels and with airbnb. I’m not saying that we don’t like nice hotels, we just don’t like paying for them. I also find that when staying at hostels and other budget places we get much more honest travel advice/ info about the area we are visting.

For example (some of you might have heard me say this before), if I ask a hostel for a recommendation on a place to eat, they likely send me somewhere they would eat. When I ask the same question in an upscale hotel, I am usually told about their in-house restaurant. Continue reading European Cities with Cheapest Five-Star Hotels

Need A Social Media Travel Assistant?

A couple of days back I wrote about a pretty crazy story about how a Woman FAKES Amazing 42 Day Vacation. The main point of taking this fake-cation was a project to “point out the artificiality of social media” according to CTV News.

If you don’t have the energy to plan and go through the hassle of taking a fake-cation, here is another way to take social media to the next level.

How about hiring a social media assistant for your next vacation! Continue reading Need A Social Media Travel Assistant?

10 Weirdest Restaurants in the World

a couple of women sitting at a table

A couple of years back I wrote a short post about Bizarre Restaurants Around the World. I haven’t thought much about these restaurants since writing the post until writing about how you can Dine With An Unusual Guest in Japan.

If I had to think of a bizarre restaurant that we’ve eaten at I’d probably go with one that isn’t all that strange. Years back, while in Budapest we went to a restaurant called Sir Lancelot. Continue reading 10 Weirdest Restaurants in the World

Woman FAKES Amazing 42 Day Vacation

a woman and a child sitting on a ledge

It really is amazing what stories could be told using Facebook and Photoshop and not all of them are what they seem.

Imagine telling your friends and family that you were going on an amazing 42 day Southeast Asia vacation and then posting photos during your trip to Facebook. Imagine doing this all without leaving your home town.

That’s exactly what a Dutch woman, Zilla van den Born did.  Continue reading Woman FAKES Amazing 42 Day Vacation

The Weekly Rehash

The Weekly Rehash

We’re another week into September which means its time for another rehash of the previous week here at Michael W Travels World Headquarters.

The weather is getting a bit colder here in the NY but Kim and I will be heading out-of-town for a few days. We’ll be heading to Vegas towards the end of the week for BAcon- the Boarding Area Conference. We’ll get another jolt of heat as the temperature should be around 100 degrees some of the days.
