Video: A Big Surprise At the Airport

AA-NewLogo

American Airlines shared a really cool video on February 14 (Valentine’s Day) that I hadn’t seen until a couple of days back since we were away on our Quick Euro Roadtrip. (Post to come soon.)

In the video, a man surprises his (long-distance) girlfriend of 4+ years at the airport to ask her a very important question. A proposal at the airport sounds pretty odd so why pop the question there? It’s a pretty simple answer.

4,000 Skeletons at The Capuchin Crypt of Santa Maria della Concezione

a group of skulls and statues
During our trip to Italy (a few years back) we spent some of our time in Rome. There are many popular & well-known sites which are on most visitor’s lists of things to see. (Think the Colosseum, Pantheon, Forum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, the Vatican etc…)
.
While we did visit all of the sites listed above and more, we also wanted to find something that felt a little more off the beaten path..

20 Free Animal Viewing Spots in the U.S.

Georgia Aquarium

In the past I’ve written about some amazing animal experiences that we’ve had over the years.

Kim and I have been on a bunch of African safaris in countries like Kenya, Uganda, Namibia and South Africa but also got to take Our First American Safari a couple of years back. During that same trip to South Dakota we also had a great laugh while Hanging With the Burros (similar to a donkey).

You can also check out a post about My Top 5 Animal Encounters which includes some experiences from around the world.

National Geographic came up with an interesting article related to free animal viewing.

12 Elevators You Need To See To Believe

IMG_7102

I wouldn’t typically call an elevator ride a tourist attraction but Budget Travel would beg to differ when it comes to 12 that they mentioned in a recent article.

BT says when it comes to elevators, function usually trumps form and the ride is usually forgettableNot so with these lifts—some look like they belong in sci-fi thrillers, others could be theme park attractions, but a trip on any one of them will earn you a lifetime of bragging rights.

I figured that the article was worth a look and saw that I had (kind of) been on 2 of these elevators with one other being close to home.

Poll Results In: Is It Worth Upgrading to Economy Plus?

Screen Shot 2014-02-09 at 3.20.20 AMA little over a week ago I wrote a post asking Is It Worth Upgrading to Economy Plus.

For me the answer is no if I have to pay for the upgrade. I’d gladly take a free upgrade but to pay for a little more space, I just don’t see the value. I would much prefer to use valuable funds to pay for things during the trip.

However, I can see some cases where paying for E+ can be worth it. If you’re on the taller side then upgrading might be well worth it to get extra space and save your knees from the seat in front of you. I could also see some people finding E+ a decent option for very long flights.

Jumping By Hamlet’s Castle of Kronborg- Denmark

P1030455In February 2011 Kim and I took a quick trip to Copenhagen thanks to a mistake fare with Delta. For $151.50 per person it was a deal that we couldn’t pass up.

We had been to Copenhagen a couple of years back (during the summer) so this time we got to experience the city in the bitter cold of winter.

During our brief 3 day trip, we had planned to stay at a hotel in Copenhagen and see a little more of the country. We ended up visiting three cities in three days!

Keeping Track of Countries In A Permanent Way

Screen Shot 2014-02-16 at 7.19.48 PMI use a few sites to track the countries that I’ve visited but none are as permanent as this. A couple of favorites sites that I use are TravBuddy and MostTraveledPeople.

TravBuddy is great because it makes a really cool personalized travel map which also tells you the percentage of the world that you’ve visited. (Check out my map at the bottom of my site .) MostTraveledPeople is really useful because it breaks things down even more. It also tracks states/ regions and disputed territories as well as also offering a UNESCO World Heritage Site tracker and some other useful tools.

Is It Worth Upgrading To Economy Plus: Vote In The Poll

Screen Shot 2014-02-09 at 3.20.20 AMEarlier in the week I wrote a post related to the value of upgrading to Economy Plus. (Check out the original post here.)

Kim and I have never flown in E+ and don’t really think it is worth the extra expense. With Lucas now needing his own seat, we also gain space (when sitting 3 across) from his seat.

After my original post, I had a variety of answers in the comments. I also had an interesting response om Twitter from the youngest American to visit every country in the world.

10 Valentine’s Day Destinations For Every Kind of Romantic

lonelyplanet

As most of you know, Valentine’s Day is tomorrow. This year we are actually in Europe. While we usually don’t go away for this holiday, thanks to the amazing Wideroe mistake fare offer back in November and Monday being President’s Day we ended up with another short European vacation.

Valentine’s Day is definitely one of those over-rated and over-priced days of the year but what can you do! It actually means a lot more to me however since it’s the day that Kim and I met!

Lonely Planet came up with a list of Ten Valentine’s Day destinations for every kind of romantic.
