Southwest Plane Cookies, A Fun and Tasty Snack

a yellow bag of food

While on an early morning flight with Southwest the snacks were not the usual honey roasted peanuts. Instead, we were each given a bag of cookies and some pop- chips.
.
I took a quick glance at the package of cookies and then put them in my seat-back pocket to save for later on during the flight.

When I went to open them up I was a bit surprised. I thought that I had read that they were plain cookies.

Milwaukee Recap- Day 3

a map of a city

The last day of our visit to Milwaukee was probably my favorite day of the trip. It didn’t seem as busy or tiring as the other two days but it ended with a 2+ hour flight delay before heading home. (Check out my posts about Day 1 and Day 2 by clicking on the links)

Here are some of the things we did:

  • Harley Davidson Museum
  • Lunch at AJ Bombers
  • Visited a new baseball stadium to see the Brewers play
  • Stopped by Gilles- Milwaukee’s oldest frozen custard stand
  • A 2+ hour flight delay gave Lucas some time to play (in the airport) Continue reading Milwaukee Recap- Day 3

Milwaukee Recap- Day 2

a map of a city

Kim, Lucas and I spent the Memorial Day Weekend visiting a new city, Milwaukee. It was our first time also visiting the state of Wisconsin. I wrote about our first day in Milwaukee last week and now it’s time to write about our second day.

Here are some of the things we did:

Milwaukee Recap- Day 1

a map of a city

We got home from our trip to Milwaukee a couple of days ago and I’m still trying to catch up on sleep. Our return flight was delayed over two hours. This messed us up and put Lucas’ sleep schedule a bit out of whack.

Our first day in Milwaukee was filled with food and drink related stops. Milwaukee is known for it’s beer history so we started our day with a brewery tour. During the rest of our day we visited a market and tried some local foods.

Here is a list of some of the things we did:

  • Visit to Miller Valley to tour the Miller Brewery
  • Tried out “Milwaukee style pizza at Zaffiro’s
  • Checked out the Milwaukee Public Market & Historic Third Ward
  • Dinner at Solly’s Grille
  • Had awesome custard at Kopp’s Frozen Custard

Lucas Loves Cowboy Music, Thanks BAcon

During our visit to Colorado for the Boarding Area Conference (BAcon) a couple of weeks back, we had a fun night out thanks to Randy Petersen and the BA team. The plans were a surprise, with the location revealed to us just before the event.

The Saturday night festivities took place in an old recording studio (the name escapes me) which looked like a old auto garage or something along those lines.

The event featured live music from an authentic cowboy band-  Flying W Wranglers and really tasty barbecue from Rudy’s.

A First At The Delta Sky Deck- JFK Airport, NYC

T4
Final approach to the Sky Deck

Yesterday I was happy to share an unlikely encounter that I had while attending the opening of Delta’s Terminal 4 (T4) at JFK Airport. You can Read about it HERE.

Today I would like to share something that I did on the brand new Delta Sky Deck that I believe is a first. While checking out the new and incredible Sky Deck, I felt that it would be a great place for a jump! (Make sure to check out the photo below)

(For those of you that don’t know, I like to jump for photos at times. You can check out a sample of my jumping photos on Michael W Travels HERE.)

When my brother and I got to the new T4, there were a couple of things we were really looking forward to seeing. At the top of our (and I’d guess just about everyone else’s) list would be a visit to the Delta Sky Club’s Sky Deck. Continue reading A First At The Delta Sky Deck- JFK Airport, NYC

It’s been a very busy last couple of days over here at Michael W Travels.
I’m currently in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for Memorial Day Weekend. Instead of packing and planning my trip, I was attending a couple of Delta events.
I went to:
  • Thursday- T4X closing concert  Ed Sheeran in NYC
  • Friday- The opening of Terminal 4 at JFK Airport.

Check back for detailed posts about each of those events very soon.

I was hoping to get some posts done tonight but my flight to Milwaukee took off over an hour late and when we got to our hotel, Lucas decided to get a second wind and play for a while!

While checking out Terminal 4 (T4), my brother and I decided to head over to the new Delta Sky Club. As we got on the escalator I saw a girl coming down holding a Virgin Airlines plane model. Following just up the escalator was Sir Richard Branson! Continue reading An Unlikely Encounter: Richard Branson at Delta T4 Opening

Kim and Lucas Get Booted From the Broadmoor Spa

During our weekend in Colorado for the Boarding Area Conference (BAcon), a first happened. Kim got kicked out of a place due to Lucas.

I was busy all weekend attending seminars about blogging, learning new tips and tricks to make my site better. Kim, Lucas and other +1’s (of BAcon attendees) didn’t have much planned, so the organizers- Boarding Area/ Randy Petersen arranged for a day at the historic Broadmoor Hotel’s Spa.
.
For Kim, going to a spa wasn’t going to be easy without some help with Lucas.

A Quick Visit To Garden of the Gods- Colorado Springs

a man jumping in the air

While heading back to Denver from Colorado Springs we decided to stop at Garden of the Gods, a National Natural Landmark.

We were in Colorado Springs for the BoardingArea Conference aka BAcon. The conference was a great experience. I learned some new things which I will try to put into practice to improve the blog in the future. I also met many great people and fellow bloggers, the bulk being from travel blog aggregator site BoardingArea.

Pikes Peak
There wasn’t much time for our visit since we had to get back to Denver to catch a flight to New Orleans. The park was very busy and it was hard finding a parking spot. When we finally found a spot, we were amazed at what we saw.
The rock formations were really impressive. They had a nice orange color which reminded me of the Olgas in the Australian Outback. We could also see the snow capped Pikes Peak which offered another great view.

After taking a few pictures of Kim and Lucas, it was time for some jumping shots.

I got to work, jumping right away and caused a few chuckles from other visitors in the process. I’m really happy with how the pictures came out!

While heading back to the car, I saw a guy juggling. It looked really cool with the blue sky and the pins flying in the air. The pictures were so awesome that I offered to e-mail them to the juggler.

If you decide to visit Colorado Springs, I’d definitely recommend a visit to the Garden of Gods. It’s probably a good idea to get there early since this seemed to be a very popular sight. I’d love to go back and have more time to explore the park in the future.

Garden of Gods is located at 1805 N.30th St in Colorado Springs, CO. You can read more about the park online HERE.

Recap: North Face Endurance Race Weekend- Bear Mountain, NY

a man jumping in the air with a red arch
Even when we are not traveling, Kim and I like to keep busy and do and see things in our city (New York) or around the tri-state area. We are always visiting new restaurants, street fairs, festivals and exploring new neighborhood…
.
Especially when traveling with a child, I think it makes sense to make a weekend out of activities that are a bit further from home. For us it’s more about balancing things that we enjoy and activities that will entertain the little one.
.
A couple of weeks ago I ran in the North Face Endurance Challenge 5K for the second year in a row. (Check out my post about last year’s race HERE)
Last year the race kicked my butt and after doing it a second time I’ll say that this is definitely the toughest race that I’ve entered.
.
I guess that I like torturing myself because I’m already looking towards next year’s race and thinking about entering the 10K race. Kind of crazy since I’ve haven’t yet run a 10K!
.
The race took place upstate New York at Bear Mountain State Park. Due to the early start we slept in the vicinity of the park. I wasn’t going to just head up there at night to sleep so we headed upstate early and made a mini-trip out of it.
