Our Budget Friendly Trip To The Maldives With Kids

maldivesIn the summer of 2019 the Michael W Travels family went on a month-long trip around South Asia.

During the trip we visited five new countries- Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and India.

While planning the trip, Kim and I knew that our visit to the Maldives wouldn’t be the classic experience. (Most people think of the Maldives and picture overwater bungalows and luxury.) Continue reading Our Budget Friendly Trip To The Maldives With Kids

Camelback Resort: A Fun, Family-Friendly Getaway Close To NYC

Camelback ResortI first heard about Camelback Resort (located in the Poconos, Pennsylvania) a few years back. The resort looked like it could be a fun weekend trip but Lucas was a bit too young at the time to make it worthwhile.

When I recently received an invite to check out the resort, I figured that it would be the perfect time for Lucas who is now 7 years old. Continue reading Camelback Resort: A Fun, Family-Friendly Getaway Close To NYC

Searching For A Traditional Mask In Nepal

NepalI recently wrote about a traditional hat that I bought in Nepal during our trip to South Asia.

In the post I mentioned how we got much better at minimizing the amount of souvenirs we buy on trips now.

Nepal is the one country in recent years where we actually wanted to buy a few things. As we wandered around the streets of Thamel and by various sites, I noticed many shops selling beautifully painted masks. Continue reading Searching For A Traditional Mask In Nepal

A Visit To The Famed Pequod’s Pizza During A Layover In Chicago

Pequods PizzaDuring our trip to South Asia, we had a long layover in Chicago before making our way to the Maldives.

I was hoping to go into the city but it seemed too far away to make it worthwhile. Instead, Kim and I decided to go to Morton Grove (around 20 minutes away) to grab lunch at Pequod’s Pizza.

Pequod’s Pizza is deep-dish, Chicago-style pizza known for its “carmelized crust” edge. Continue reading A Visit To The Famed Pequod’s Pizza During A Layover In Chicago

CheapOair Screws Up Our Flight Booking, Makes Good

cheapoairDuring our month-long trip around South Asia we visited five countries. The last stop on our trip was to India where we visited a bunch of different areas.

We booked a flight with AirAsia (through CheapOair) to get us from Delhi to Goa.

For those who don’t know, traffic in Delhi is beyond awful. Our flight was at 7:55 pm and we hoped to arrive at the airport two hours early. However, the ride to the airport took a lot longer than expected due to that fun Delhi traffic. Continue reading CheapOair Screws Up Our Flight Booking, Makes Good

Searching For A Dhaka Topi Traditional Hat In Nepal

nepalOver the years I’ve gotten much better at minimizing the amount of souvenirs (junk) that I purchase while traveling.

I remember coming home from Thailand (about 10 years ago) with an extra bag filled to the brim. Now it seems like many countries sell the same kind of this. Most of the time, if I am buying something it is for my boys.

However, there are a few items that I still like to purchase when visiting new places and one of them is traditional hats. (Click the link to find out about some of my other hat purchases from around the globe.) Continue reading Searching For A Dhaka Topi Traditional Hat In Nepal

Our Experience Flying To Mount Everest With Yeti Airlines Everest Express

mount everestDuring our month-long summer trip to South Asia we visited five countries including Nepal.

We wanted to make the most of our short, four-day visit to the country so we debated flying somewhere to get a glimpse of the Himalayas, especially Mount Everest with our own eyes.

After landing in Kathmandu, a man at the taxi desk mentioned tours and even a special scenic flight to see the highest mountain in the world. Kim and I were intrigued and immediately starting debating if it was worth the expense. Continue reading Our Experience Flying To Mount Everest With Yeti Airlines Everest Express

A Family-Friendly Must Visit: The Icelandic Museum of Rock and Roll

rock and rollDuring our trip to Iceland, we primarily visited some of the country’s incredible, natural sites. We also made it a point to visit a few museums to learn more about the country.

While on the way to the airport for the flight home, we had some extra time to kill and decided to stop at the Icelandic Museum of Rock and Roll. Continue reading A Family-Friendly Must Visit: The Icelandic Museum of Rock and Roll

A Tasty Souvenir From Our Trip To Iceland

icelandThe Michael W Travels family started off the summer break with a trip to Iceland.

During our trip, we focused on visiting areas in the south. We had a great time during our trip around this pricey island nation.

Food costs in Iceland can potentially break the budget but there are some ways to save. Daily supermarket visits kept the price of daily  breakfast, lunch and snacks to $25-$30 (per day for a family of 4). Continue reading A Tasty Souvenir From Our Trip To Iceland
