A Tasty Souvenir From Our Trip To Iceland

icelandThe Michael W Travels family started off the summer break with a trip to Iceland.

During our trip, we focused on visiting areas in the south. We had a great time during our trip around this pricey island nation.

Food costs in Iceland can potentially break the budget but there are some ways to save. Daily supermarket visits kept the price of daily  breakfast, lunch and snacks to $25-$30 (per day for a family of 4). Continue reading A Tasty Souvenir From Our Trip To Iceland

Anthony Bourdain Recommended: Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur- Iceland

anthony bourdainWhen traveling to new places, we love trying out some of the local food. During our recent trip to Iceland, this meant trying out hot dogs which are know there as pylsur.

During our 8 days in Iceland, we tried out hot dogs at various different stands and even at gas stations. In my opinion, they’re all pretty much the same. (From what I noticed, all places serve the same brand of hot dog from the brand SS, so how different could they really be!)

However, there is one tiny stand in Reykjavik which we had to try. Continue reading Anthony Bourdain Recommended: Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur- Iceland

Ridiculous Street Signs #25: Hot Dogs- Linden, New Jersey

Hot DogWhile on the way to a friend’s house in New Jersey, the Michael W Travels family decided to stop for lunch along the way.

Our food stop would be just past Staten Island, in Linden, NJ. The White Rose Diner is the kind of place where you feel like you’re stepping back in time. The most famous items on the menu are sliders and sandwiches made with Taylor Ham (a salty, porky NJ specialty). Continue reading Ridiculous Street Signs #25: Hot Dogs- Linden, New Jersey

You might also know Nathan’s due to their famous Hot Dog Eating Contest which takes place each year at the original location in Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY on July 4. (I’ve gone a few times since we live close by.) Continue reading An Amazing Deal for 100th Anniversary of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs

Best Hot Dogs in America

Hot Dogs. Is there a more American food than these super unhealthy yet tasty tubes of meat?

When I think of a barbecue, I think hot dogs. The Fouth of July- fireworks and you guessed it, hot dogs.

Growing up I loved hot dogs, much more than burgers but probably not quite as much as pizza. While burgers have edged out the hot dog for me, I still do love a good, tasty dog.

And who knew there were so many varieties! Continue reading Daily Meal’s 75 Best Hot Dogs in America 2015

A Visit to the Vienna Beef Factory Store

a sign in front of a building

While planning my trip to Chicago this past October, I came across a tour that I really wanted to take. However, there were a couple of problems.

  1. The tours are only given on Wednesday mornings and we were arriving Thursday night
  2. The tour was booked up through winter 2014

The tour that would elude me was a visit to the manufacturing facility of Vienna Beef.
.
If I couldn’t get to learn about how hot dogs were made at VB, I decided to do the next best thing- visit the Vienna Beef Factory Store & Cafe.
