America’s Coolest Breweries

IMG_2393

When it comes to adult beverages, beer is usually my drink of choice.

Over the years beer has played an important role in many of my trips. I’ve visited and taken tours of quite a few breweries and have also had few beercenteric trips.

My first brewery tour was in Glasgow, Scotland at Tennent’s around 12-13 years ago  and my most recent one was in Korca, Albania this past summer. In between, I’ve visited breweries in many countries and all around the U.S.

When it comes to trips centered around beer, 3 of them come to mind.

Play Geoguessr- Find Out How Well You Know The World

a screenshot of a computer

BBC Travel created a game called Geoguessr to test your knowledge and find out how well you know the world.

Geoguessr will help you find out how good of a geography expert you might be. First you will be shown an image (from Google) which you can zoom in and scroll around on. Once you think you know where you are, you’ll place a marker on a map at the bottom of the screen. You can also zoom around on the map to get better accuracy. Points will be awarded based on how close you were to the actual location.

Can You Identify Places From Above? Take the Quiz

a large city with many tall buildings

At the end of March I wrote about an article that Kim sent me which had Amazing Aerial Views From Around the World.  I found the views to be really impressive and I really was amazed by many of them.

Back on the subject of aerial views- Buzzfeed had a new quiz a few days ago. The topic, Can You Recognize These Places From Above?

I took the quiz and found some of the places really easy to identify while others I wasn’t too sure of. However, with some educated guessing I did pretty well.

20 Places To See Abroad Before You Die

a close-up of a logoWhile I don’t have a bucket list (I actually really dislike the term and idea of it), I still have a mental list of certain countries and sites that I’d love to see and explore some day.

If I had to make a short list of top places I’d recommend to visit that I’ve already been to, it would look something like this:

Do It For Denmark- Have Sex & Win A Free Trip

a group of babies in a row

Danish travel company Spies put together a funny video and is running a very interesting contest to help out the country.

Due to Denmark’s declining birthrate (which is at a 27 year low), Spies is offering an ovulation discount. For one lucky Danish couple that gets pregnant while booked on their trip, they could win a future family friendly vacation as well as 3 years worth of baby products.

10 Things You Should Never Say To A Flight Attendant

Screen Shot 2014-03-23 at 11.57.12 PMLast week I wrote about a USA Today article- How To Make Flight Attendants Like You. Some might say that the general idea of the article is just common sense while my thought is that a simple reminder about how to act/ behave on a flight doesn’t hurt.

I just came across another flight attendant-related article, this time from Smarter Travel.

I was expecting the article- 10 Things You Should Never Say to a Flight Attendant to be an interesting list but to me, this was a bit ridiculous and something to laugh about. I can’t imagine who would actually say most of these things.

21 Most Awesome Hotel Views On Earth

a collage of a hotel roomWhen it comes to our accommodations we’re usually not too picky. We’ve stayed in all kinds of rooms from fancy hotels, to simple guest houses, motels, airbnb and our usual favorite- hostels.

My main goal, when picking where to stay is to not waste too much money but still find a place in a convenient location (with decent wifi). For us, a hotel is just a place to catch some sleep and take a shower (and write a blog post). The hotel experience is not the focus of our trip and we usually spend very little time in the room. This philosophy did change a bit once we had Lucas. Some simple things we now appreciate include a decent amount of space to move around, a bathtub (Lucas hates showers) and a refrigerator.

We’re all used to seeing the concierge desk at hotels but how about the fish valet? Yes, there really is a fish valet at one hotel in Vancouver.

Conde Naste Traveler put together an entertaining slideshow featuring some of the most interesting (bizarre) hotel assistant jobs that exist around the world.

Here are the jobs:

Lufthansa Ducks- What’s The Big Deal?

Our Berlin drinking duck

Back in August Lucas Finally Got An Airline Duck. Now it may have not been one of the highy sought after Lufthansa Ducks but Lucas didn’t seem to mind. (We also got another duck, this time from art’otel Berlin Mitte (shown above) as an In-Room Welcome Gift during our trip to Germany back in September.)

I started hearing a lot about Lufthansa’s Ducks from my friend Dennis, the Lufthansa Flyer a couple of years back. If you have a moment, check out his extensive and awesome Lufthansa First Class Duck Registry.

For many, the main reason and highlight for visiting Lufthansa’s First Class Lounges & Terminal in Frankfurt is to get a duck. Some will even visit multiple First Class Lounges to try to get a couple of ducks! If you’ve checked out the First Class Duck Registery above, you’ll see that the ducks can come in a wide variety of styles.

Stop Getting Naked At Machu Picchu

a stone ruins on a mountain I saw the headline- Peru to tourists: “Stop getting naked at Machu Picchu” from CNN Travel a couple of weeks back and had to find out more about the article.

Machu Picchu is one of Kim and my favorite sites that we’ve visited (from just about anywhere in the world that we’ve been). There is something  magical about the place, from the train ride there to the bus ride up the switch back road, until finally setting sight on Machu Picchu itself. If you haven’t been there, it should be at the top of your list of places to visit! Some day I hope to revisit Machu Picchu with Lucas.

According to CNN, incidents of naked tourism are on the rise and Peruvian official aren’t happy about it.
