We first tried Detroit-Style Pizza back in 2016 at Emmy Squared in Brooklyn, New York. This style of pizza instantly became a family favorite. However, not many other places close to home were making it.
One positive to come from COVID (and spending lots of time at home), was learning to make pizza (NY and Detroit style).
Chain pizzeria Jet’s Pizza opened a few years back in NYC and I’ve wanted to give it a try ever since. With a new Brooklyn location opening recently, the time seemed right to try their Detroit- Style Deep Dish.
We downloaded the Jet’s app and ordered a 4 Corner Pizza and a bottle of their ranch dressing. I had heard good things about Jet’s and it smelled pretty good inside the shop so I was definitely looking forward to giving the pie a try!Upon first look, I noticed that the pie had sauce under the cheese. The saucy stripes that Detroit Style Pizza is famous for were nowhere to be seen.
A small but noticeable frico (crispy cheese crust) can be seen all around the edge of the pie. This is an expected characteristic of DSP.
Upon first bite, I was impressed. The crust was light, squishy and very enjoyable. I just would’ve liked for it to be crispier.
Otherwise, the pizza had good overall flavor. My one small complaint was that the sauce could be a bit better. However, I have a fix for this issue… Add some Jet’s Ranch Dressing! While I’m not typically a ranch pizza kind of guy, this definitely balanced the flavors out, also adding a bit of a tang.
Final Thoughts:
Jet’s Pizza Detroit Style Deep Dish definitely exceeded expectations.
Kim and I planned to share one slice, we enjoyed it so much that we decided to share another. Out of the chain Detroit Style Pizzas we’ve tried (we’ve also had Little Caesar’s and Pizza Hut), Jet’s is definitely at the top of the list.
Have you tried Jet’s Detroit Style Pizza? If so, what did you think of it?
