Looking Back: The Shit Fountain- Chicago

Shit Fountain

I mentioned in my post about The Doughnut Vault that prior to heading to Chicago I was looking to find some places that seemed a bit more off the beaten path.

When I came across the Shit Fountain I knew that I had found possibly one of the oddest sites.

The fountain is located outside of a private home at 1005 N. Wolcott Avenue. It was created by Chicago artist Jerzy S. Kenar due to being pissed about locals not cleaning up after their dogs.

Quirkiest American Attractions

The Mutter Museum

When traveling, I always look to find some things that might be considered odd, quirky and possibly even off the beaten path.

These kind of attractions could be found as a roadside statue, an interesting/ odd museum or in many other ways.

I thought of this topic due to a slideshow that I recently came across from USA Today Travel.  Continue reading Quirkiest American Attractions

Most Ridiculous Landmarks In Each State

When visiting a new place, I often seek out quirky and off the beaten path attractions. The stranger and more bizarre the better!

As an example, here are a couple that I’ve written about. Have you heard about The Shit Fountain in Chicago? Close to Atlantic City, NJ did you know there was a six-story tusker that you could go inside? That would be Lucy the Elephant. Continue reading Most Ridiculous Landmarks In Each State

First off, I want to wish all of you a Happy New Year’s and hope that 2014 was a great one in all aspects of life (including travel of course)!

For my last post of 2014 I thought it would be fitting to share a fun articleI found from Buzzfeed.

While I find New Year’s Eve to be a highly overrated night, there are a variety of traditions around the world that countries follow.  Continue reading Bizarre New Years Eve Traditions Around the World

Earlier in the month I wrote about a Conde Naste Travel article:  Odd Hotel Assistant Jobs That Really Exist.

The article mentioned some pretty strange jobs which were definitely interesting to hear about as well as a good laugh!

I just came across another article with a very similar topic. The article, from Forbes Travel Guide is about Five Hotels With Unique Concierges.

We’re all used to seeing the concierge desk at hotels but how about the fish valet? Yes, there really is a fish valet at one hotel in Vancouver.

Conde Naste Traveler put together an entertaining slideshow featuring some of the most interesting (bizarre) hotel assistant jobs that exist around the world.

Flashback Friday: The 6 Oddest Foods That I’ve Ever Tried

FlashbackFriEarlier in the week I took part in Pin-Up Live, a travel chat done through Pinterest. The chats are hosted by Bethany and Randy from travel blog Beer & Beans.

During each chat, the topic varies and other co-hosts join them. For the most recent chat, the topic was Rerouted: A Skype Travel Challenge with Skype and AFAR.

Besides the main topic/ questions, others are also posted creating even more conversations.

One of the questions was: What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever eaten while traveling? Lots of things came to mind as did a post that I wrote about  just before the summer. While I was on the topic of crazy foods, I figured it would be a great idea to share my post for this week’s Flashback Friday.

Here is the post:

5 Bizarre Burgers That I’ve Tried

IMG_5785

Just after pizza, burgers are  my next favorite food .  I enjoying trying  different kinds of burgers at places all over the country and world but usually won’t pass up  some of my favorites (I’m talking about you Shake Shack!)

The best part about visiting different places is seeing the wide variety of ways burgers can be prepared and dressed. Each place can customize their patties with different cuts of meat, buns & toppings, some even being really creative (maybe crazy) with some of their combinations.

A bunch of burgers come to mind (that I’ve tried) when I think about crazy burgers.

Flashback Friday: The Oddest Checked Luggage I’ve Ever Seen

FlashbackFriA couple of weeks back I posted about a museum featuring medical oddities and this week I want to share a different kind of odd post from the past for Flashback Friday.

I can’t recall seeing anything odd ever get checked at the airport up til our trip to Louisville and Nashville last December. At the counter next to ours, a man was trying to check two 50 pound dumbbells!

Flashback Friday: The Mutter Museum- A Musem of Medical Oddities

FlashbackFriDuring my travels I don’t usually like to visit too many museums, however there are some that I try to seek out. For this week’s Flashback Friday I will share a post about a certain type of museum that I will go out of my way to visit-museums that display oddities!

I’ve been to a bunch of these type of museums and would like to share a post about one of them today.
