Lonely Planet’s Best Value Travel Destinations 2014

lonelyplanet

Many of us playing the miles and points game are always on the lookout for a great deal or other ways to save a bit while traveling.

Kim and I like to head to destinations which are off-season at times. This could lead to incredible value as well as having sites pretty much all to your self.

Many times off-peak does not equal a bad time to go.

A couple of trips that we’ve taken that come to mind are Guatemala in late June/ early July which can be the rainy season and Egypt/ Jordan in mid August which can be a time where it is extremely hot. In both of these cases we had a great time and were lucky to visit sites which were a lot less crowded than their busier times of year to visit.

Lonely Planet’s Best In Travel 2014 sounds like an interesting reference guide. It offers the best trends, destinations, journeys & experiences for the upcoming year.

While I’ve never purchased this kind of guide, I love skimming through them, seeing what made the list for the upcoming year. For Lonely Planet to come up with their results they used information provided by LP staff, authors and online community.

A list of interest to me was the Top 10 Countries for 2014. I wouldn’t necessarily use this list to help me decide where to visit next but it’s fun to see what is supposed to be hot for the new year.

Lonely Planet "Not For Parents" Guides

a group of children's books

I recently came across a collection of Lonely Planet books geared towards kids.

Lonely Planet Not-For-Parents books aren’t guide books. They offer interesting stories and “facts about people, places, history and culture from around the world”.

The series was created because Lonely Planet felt that an important group of travelers- kids, were being left out. Continue reading Lonely Planet "Not For Parents" Guides

I’ve always been interested in visiting bizarre, odd and weird sites around the world. I’ll even go out of my way to visit one if it seems like it might be worthwhile.

The Best Places To See Amazing Street Art

Valparaiso
A couple of months back I was reading a Lonely Planet newsletter which had a short article related to street art. A LP Magazine reader sent in a question asking- Where can I see Amazing Street Art? (Check out the article HERE)
.
The article answered the question with three suggestions- Belgium, Pittsburgh and Melbourne. I’ve been to Belgium and Melbourne and don’t remember the street art. Maybe I didn’t pay attention to it or it just did not catch my eye.
.
However, I immediately thought of a couple of cities that did- Bogota, Colombia and Valparaiso, Chile. Continue reading The Best Places To See Amazing Street Art
