Flying the Inaugural Air China Montreal- Havana, Cuba Flight

Air China

On December 27, 2015, Kim, Lucas and I flew on Air China’s inaugural flight from Montreal, Canada to Havana, Cuba.

This was our first time flying an inaugural flight and I didn’t know what to expect. However, I did assume that some special events might take place at the airport and during the flight.

Here are some details of the festivities that  took place during Air China’s inaugural Montreal- Havana flight (not of our experience flying in business class. I’ll save that for another post possibly…) Continue reading Flying the Inaugural Air China Montreal- Havana, Cuba Flight

Trip Planning: We’re Going to Cuba!

Cuba

2015 has been another great year of travel for the Michael W Travels family. We visited lots of new places and had many wonderful experiences.

We’ll be ending the year by visiting a destination I’ve long wanted to visit- Cuba!

I first thought about going to Cuba when I worked at CBS News. The show I worked on, 60 Minutes II had done a segment about Cuba called La Isla De Musica. Seeing footage of the island made me want to get there at some point. Continue reading Trip Planning: We’re Going to Cuba!

For many years I’ve wanted to visit Cuba.

I think the first time I thought about visiting was when I worked for CBS News. A story was done about the music on the island and I remember seeing footage of those old, classic American cars  (or maybe somebody told me about them).

This was years ago and since then I’ve looked into doing one of those cultural or religious trips but the prices were ridiculous. I’m going to estimate that a 5 day trip was going for something like $4,000. Continue reading US and Cuba Close To Restoring Commercial Flights?

Many people, myself included have long wanted to visit the island so this appears to be a step in the right direction towards being able to go there someday.

With relations restored, many companies are probably looking for ways to create new business opportunities in or with Cuba. Continue reading MLB Spring Training Games in Cuba?

American Airlines L.A. to Cuba Charter Service Announced

American Airlines NewsWith the U.S. easing the restrictions on visiting Cuba it has quickly become one of the hottest touist destinatons.

Full diplomatic relations have been restored between the two nations so hopefully it will be even easier for Americans to visit Cuba in the near future. I’d love to go before it gets flooded with American tourists and loses some of its charm but it still isn’t so simple to get to Cuba…

Early in 2015 CheapAir.com started selling flight from the US to Cuba. JetBlue started offering a direct charter from NY to Cuba which began in early July. Continue reading American Airlines L.A. to Cuba Charter Service Announced

With Cuba being possibly the hottest and most talked about travel destination, here is a bit of good news, kind of…

I’ve heard that WiFi is almost non-existent on the island of Cuba. When you can find a connection it can tend to be quite slow but also quite expensive making it best to probably unplug during your visit.

However, Engadget reports that “Cuba is getting island-wide WiFi hotspots next month“. Continue reading Cuba Getting WiFi Hotspots Around Island
