Awesome McDonald’s Dishes You Can’t Get in America

a close up of a burgerMany of you may have noticed that I like to visit McDonald’s while traveling to foreign countries.

While I rarely dine at McDonald’s at home, I love seeing what interesting and unique items might be on the menu. It’s also a great place to get Lucas a little toy for being a good boy while we’re traveling. (He also happens to love their fries!) A Unique Food at McDonald’s Romania

I’ve written a bunch of times about how I love to visit McDonald’s when visiting a new country but rarely ever eat there at home.

Food is a big part of travel but sometimes it’s nice to eat something that reminds you of home (especially the Heinz ketchup!). However, the main reason that I have to visit McDonald’s when traveling is to see if there are any menu items which are not available at home which might be unique or a variation of a local dish. Eat Your Big Mac Inside A McDonald’s Plane

At home I rarely eat at McDonald’s but while traveling I love to stop in to see what interesting, local items might be on the menu.

Along with being interested in checking out locally inspired items, I also like to visit McDonald’s which tend to be a bit different in terms of their design. I’ve been to one location which has a train attached to it, another in New Zealand had Maori style wood carvings decorating it and there were also a couple of interesting locations in Dallas- one having a jungle/ zoo theme while the other was shaped like a Happy Meal!

I came across an article a couple of days back about a McDonald’s which might just be the coolest one ever and of great interest to aviation geeks! Continue reading Eat Your Big Mac Inside A McDonald’s Plane

Off Topic: McDonald’s Has An Extra 10,000,000 Pounds of Chicken Wings

McDonald’s is one of the most successful fast food chains in the world and Ronald McDonald is possibly one of the world’s most recognizable mascots.

Most products that McDonald’s offers go on to be successful but boy did they miss the mark with the relatively new Mighty Wings.

McDonald’s purchased around 50 million pounds of chicken wings and they weren’t able to sell enough of them. This left the fast food giant with 20% of their inventory,  10 million pounds of wings which are in frozen storage.

Disappointing Breakfast Menu Items At McDonald’s In Germany

IMG_7328

During our trip to Germany (back in September) we visited Berlin before heading to Munich for Oktoberfest, the main reason for our trip. (I’ve been a bit behind on posting about our experience at Oktoberfest but plan to write about it soon.)

While this wasn’t my first trip to Germany, I still had to stop by McDonald’s to see if there were any locally insprired menu items. I know I definitely ate there but don’t recall eating anything out of the ordinary.

We first visited  a McDonald’s for a late snack. It was getting late and we didn’t want to first go in search of a restaurant. Nothing special on the menu caught my eye but I did see that there were some interesting breakfast options to try another time.

A couple of days later, our destination for breakfast was McDonald’s. The photo above shows “Your New Breakfast At McDonald’s” so we went ahead and ordered one of each item.

Balkans Trip: Some Local Menu Items At McDonald’s In Serbia

IMG_4481At home, Kim and I rarely visit McDonald’s but when traveling sometimes it’s nice to eat something that reminds you of home. We also like to stop by for the free WiFi! However, the best part of visiting McDonald’s in a foreign country is to check out what locally-inspired menu items are offered.

During our current trip to the Balkans, I had to visit McDonald’s in Serbia. We had checked in advance and found out that McDonald’s didn’t have stores in the other countries we would be visiting.

In Serbia we saw quite a few McDonald’s and most of them were located in beautiful, old buildings. The one shown in the photo above was the first location to open in the country.

A Visit To The First McDonald’s In Russia

a group of cars parked on a snowy street

During our trip I had to visit the very first McDonald’s to open in Soviet era Russia. The location opened in Moscow in 1990 and I remember it being major news due to the lines of people that went on for blocks, all wanting to get inside for a taste. This was one of the first stops we made during the trip. (Read a recap about our stay in Moscow HERE.)

I rarely eat McDonald’s at home but always try to check them out while traveling. One of my top things to do while abroad is try local food but sometimes it feels good to walk into a place and pretty much know what to expect both price and taste wise (plus McDonald’s pretty much always has free Wifi). One of the main highlights for me is seeing what items are offered that differ from the McD’s at home. I always try to get a menu item that seems  to have a local feel. That’s Different: Train Car McDonalds- Fall River, MA

a fast food restaurant with a large sign

While traveling around the world I always like to check out McDonalds to see what interesting items will be on the menu that we don’t have at home.

While reading about things to do on a trip around New England, I came across a McDonalds that has a train car attached to it. I wasn’t interested in eating there but I had to check out this location. We planned the stop as a bathroom break.

The train car is usually used as a dining room and had some diner style booths inside but it was closed for renovations. The main part of the restaurant also had a train theme with various things hanging on the wall.

This was definitely one of the most interesting and bizarre McDonalds locations that I have ever seen!

If you want to check out this McDonalds, it is located at
44 William S. Canning Blvd, Fall River, MA
