Reminder: Cast Your Vote in the Freddie Awards

freddie AwardsThe Freddie Awards were created in 1988 by Randy Petersen to honor the top airline and hotel loyalty programs.

The Freddie’s are a prestigious honor and it’s safe to say this due to so many airlines and hotels sending out e-mails urging members of their programs to cast a vote their way. Continue reading Reminder: Cast Your Vote in the Freddie Awards

2 Trips= 1 Free Hotel Night Promo

Choice Hotels

Choice Hotels is currently running a promo where staying at their properties for two separate trips will get you one free night.

This offer sounds pretty good and identical to one that was ran in late 2014.

While we don’t stay at Choice Hotels frequently, we did stay at a very nice Ascend Collection property in Deadwood, South Dakota called Cadillac Jacks Gaming Resort back in 2012. Continue reading 2 Trips= 1 Free Hotel Night Promo

Hotel Travel Hacks

I love coming across different kinds of “hacks”. Whether they be useful in everyday life or to help with my travel obsession, it’s always great to learn a new trick or two.

I came across an article (with a video) from Yahoo Travel which shares a few hotel travel hacks. Only one of these tips was new to me while the other two I wouldn’t typically think of as a hack. Continue reading Hotel Travel Hacks

The Biggest Hotel Flop of All-Time

This might just be the biggest hotel flop ever…

The last time I visited Atlantic City, the Revel Casino was nearing completion. We drove behind the construction site on the way to a pizzeria close by. From what I could tell, the property (at least from the outside) looked pretty impressive, maybe almost like something that might belong in Las Vegas. European Cities with Cheapest Five-Star Hotels

a building with a statue of a man on a horse

I wouldn’t claim to be a Five-Star Hotel kind of guy.

Since we always like to stretch our budget (both when using miles & points and when paying), an easy way to save money during a trip is by staying at budget accommodations like guesthouses, hostels and with airbnb. I’m not saying that we don’t like nice hotels, we just don’t like paying for them. I also find that when staying at hostels and other budget places we get much more honest travel advice/ info about the area we are visting.

For example (some of you might have heard me say this before), if I ask a hostel for a recommendation on a place to eat, they likely send me somewhere they would eat. When I ask the same question in an upscale hotel, I am usually told about their in-house restaurant. Continue reading European Cities with Cheapest Five-Star Hotels

Which Hotel Has the Best Rewards Program?

a gold and blue logoWhen it comes to hotel rewards programs and loyalty I can’t say that there are any that I prefer over the rest. I consider myself a free agent. I’ll stay wherever I find a cheap room, whether or not it is a points earning chain.

Thanks to the Club Carlson credit card and it’s stay 2, get 1 free rewards booking offer, this would probably tend to rank highest for me. I’ve also seen some great value booking award nights using my Starwood points. Then you have IHG which can be a real deal if you can get lucky and find a Points Break award night available at a property you actually want to stay at. The Most Expensive Hotel In North America Is In

a feather pen on a paper

Moscow, New York, Tokyo… NOPE, it’s in Tofino!

The most expensive hotel in North America is located in Tofino on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada.

I can’t say that I’ve ever heard of Tofino or looked into finding out about the most expensive hotels around the world. Based on our style of travel, we typically stay in budget accommodations, trying to spend as little as possible. (On occasion, we also like to change it up a bit at times, staying in nicer places using points.) Continue reading The Most Expensive Hotel In North America Is In
