I want to wish my little man Theo a very Happy Birthday in the online world! (We told him many times on his actual birthday!)

Over the summer, the Michael W Travels family headed off on a month- long trip to six former- Soviet states.

We had to fly home on August 29 to make it back before Theo’s 2nd birthday the following day. Continue reading Happy Birthday Theo, 2 Years Old- 22 Countries Visited!

Searching For A Traditional Papakha Hat In Azerbaijan & Georgia

papakhaWhile traveling to new countries, I’m always on the lookout for traditional, local hats. However, in recent years I haven’t really bought any new hats since they can be a pain to carry around during a trip.

In the past, I’ve shared some of my World Hats here. My collection probably comes in at around 15-20 hats. It’s been years since I last shared a post about a hat.

During our month long summer trip, I came across an interesting hat which I had to bring home. We spotted the papakha in two of the six countries we visited. Continue reading Searching For A Traditional Papakha Hat In Azerbaijan & Georgia

Did You Know About the McDonald’s McMansion on Long Island, NY?

McMansionMcDonald’s is a must- visit for me when checking out a new country but I rarely dine at the fast food chain while at home or traveling around the US.

I look forward to visiting McD’s when visiting new countries to see what interesting and different menu items might be available on the menu. (Scroll to the bottom for links to my reviews of various international McDonald’s.)

Around 4-5 years back I read about what might just be the fanciest McDonald’s I’ve ever seen. The McMansion was actually located close to home. We live in Brooklyn, NY and this fancy McD’s is located on Long Island. Continue reading Did You Know About the McDonald’s McMansion on Long Island, NY?

An Awesome Local Food at Dunkin’ Donuts in Georgia

dunkin donutsThe Michael W Travels family recently returned from a month-long summer trip where we visited six new countries.

We love trying local foods when visiting new places but it’s also nice to eat something familiar at times too. We like to visit McDonald’s when traveling to new countries to see what special menu items might be available. (We also tried something interesting in Singapore at Starbucks.)

During our summer trip, we spent the longest time in the Republic of Georgia, which is located in the Caucasus. Continue reading An Awesome Local Food at Dunkin’ Donuts in Georgia

Our Experience Staying in an Airport Pod Hotel with Kids

pod hotelDuring our four week trip to six countries, we were bound to try some new travel experiences.

One of them was a new food experience, trying a doughnut hotdog!

Two other new experiences included catching some zzz’s. We spent a night on an overnight sleeper train and also stayed in an airport pod hotel with kids. Continue reading Our Experience Staying in an Airport Pod Hotel with Kids

Anthony Bourdain Recommended: Doughnut Hot Dog- Kiev, Ukraine

anthony bourdainIn early June, the world mourned when we found out that star chef, TV host and traveler Anthony Bourdain had taken his life.

Anthony Bourdain inspired many in different ways. When visiting a new destination that Anthony had visited, I usually search to see where he ate at on his shows No Reservations or Parts Unknown. This is a great way to get some recommendations from an authority on food and travel.

During our month-long summer trip, the Michael W Travels family spent a few days in Kiev, Ukraine.  Continue reading Anthony Bourdain Recommended: Doughnut Hot Dog- Kiev, Ukraine

Our Experience Taking the Overnight Sleeper Train in Ukraine with Kids

trainTraveling for a month with a family can be pricey. The Michael W Travels family uses miles and points to help bring down the costs. However, this doesn’t cover all of the expenses.

During our month long Summer 2018 Trip, we needed to get from Kiev to Odessa, Ukraine.

Our options were limited to a very long bus ride (no thanks), a short but pricey flight or an overnight sleeper train. Continue reading Our Experience Taking the Overnight Sleeper Train in Ukraine with Kids

Our Awkward Uber Experience In Baku, Azerbaijan

uberThe Michael W Travels family is currently on a month long summer trip.

When visiting a city, our preferred form of transportation is walking. When we need to go to further areas, we love taking public transportation.

During our trip, Uber was a real bargain in Ukraine. The rideshare didn’t work in Moldova and it seemed to work in Azerbaijan, although we couldn’t get it to work at the airport. Continue reading Our Awkward Uber Experience In Baku, Azerbaijan
