Anthony Bourdain Recommended: Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur- Iceland

anthony bourdainWhen traveling to new places, we love trying out some of the local food. During our recent trip to Iceland, this meant trying out hot dogs which are know there as pylsur.

During our 8 days in Iceland, we tried out hot dogs at various different stands and even at gas stations. In my opinion, they’re all pretty much the same. (From what I noticed, all places serve the same brand of hot dog from the brand SS, so how different could they really be!)

However, there is one tiny stand in Reykjavik which we had to try. Continue reading Anthony Bourdain Recommended: Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur- Iceland

On the evening that school ended (in NYC), the Michael W Travels family headed off to Iceland. This would be the first trip to the island nation for all of us.

Kim and I have wanted to visit Iceland for years but put it off for one reason or another. When I saw what I felt was a great deal on a flight there, I immediately booked it.

With 8 days/7 nights for our trip, we needed to decide whether or not it made sense to drive the full ring road. Rather than rush around, we decided to focus on sites around the south. Continue reading 80K Barclay Arrival Miles + $1,825.88= Trip for 4 to Iceland

In Iceland Forget The Petting Zoo, Stop & Mingle With Icelandic Horses

icelandic horseThe Michael W Travels family started off summer 2019 with a trip to Iceland. During our visit, rather than rush around the whole ring road, we focused on covering sites in the south.

While away, we saw many unique sites, primarily natural and some man-made.

Kim and I came across flyer for a petting zoo and  thought it might be a good idea to stop by for the kids. The thing is, it didn’t really sound overly exciting when reading more about it online. Continue reading In Iceland Forget The Petting Zoo, Stop & Mingle With Icelandic Horses

Stumbling Across A Tourist Attraction In New York City

New York CityMy family and I had brunch at The Little Owl in Greenwich Village in New York City over the weekend. I’d been meaning to try their burger for years.

As we got close to the restaurant, we wondered why so many people were taking photos of the building the restaurant called home. People were across the street, in the street and posing in front of the building and we had no idea why!

I know the restaurant is popular but I didn’t think that it was this popular! Continue reading Stumbling Across A Tourist Attraction In New York City

Food Review: St. Louis-Style Pizza at Imo’s Pizza

Imo's PizzaI first heard about St Louis-style Pizza when the restaurant Speedy Romeo opened in Brooklyn.

What makes St Louis-style pizza different is that it’s made with Provel,  a processed cheese consisting of provolone, Swiss and white cheddar. The pies are also cut differently. (More on that later.)

On the long trip home from our trip to Argentina and Uruguay, we had a long layover in St Louis. I planned a few things to do with the time including trying St Louis-style pizza where it’s from! (This was planned prior to our flight being cancelled.) Continue reading Food Review: St. Louis-Style Pizza at Imo’s Pizza

America Del Sur Hostel, A Great Budget Friendly Option in Buenos Aires

America Del SurOver Spring Break, the Michael W Travels family headed to Argentina and Uruguay.

As usual, Kim and I were looking to do this trip on a budget while not giving up much when it came to the locations of our accommodations.

While looking into where to stay for four nights in Buenos Aires, we came up empty when I looked for potential stays with points. Traditional hotel options weren’t overly exciting so I decided to look into hostels. Continue reading America Del Sur Hostel, A Great Budget Friendly Option in Buenos Aires

Off Limits: Visiting An Abandoned Bull Ring In Colonia, Uruguay

UruguayOver Spring Break, the Michael W Travels family visited Argentina and Uruguay.

During our visit, we spent time in Colonia Del Sacramento, Uruguay. The historic quarter of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pretty much everything that you’d want to see is walkable in Colonia.

There was one site around 6 kilometers from the historic quarter which was on my list and technically off- limits. Continue reading Off Limits: Visiting An Abandoned Bull Ring In Colonia, Uruguay

What Did We Try At McDonald’s Andorra

McDonalds AndorraDuring a trip to Barcelona, Spain the Michael W Travels also visited the small landlocked country of Andorra. (Andorra is located between Spain and France in the Pyrenees Mountains.)

Find out what we did with 25 Hours In Andorra.

Soon after crossing the border, we were all hungry and a McDonald’s location just so happened to be on the road we were on. Since I love to check out McD’s when visiting a new country, this was the perfect opportunity. (The following morning we also stopped into a different location for breakfast.) Much Better 2nd Visit At Priority Pass Lounge, Bobby Van’s Grill- JFK Airport

Priority Pass LoungeA couple of months back, I wrote about a disappointing Priority Pass Lounge, Bobby Van’s Grill at JFK Airport.

BVG isn’t a typical Priority Pass Lounge, it’s a restaurant where members get a $28 credit. If you bring a guest, multiply it times 2 and you have $56 to spend during your visit.

While we weren’t happy with our selections, Kim and I figured another visit would be in order in the near future. Continue reading Much Better 2nd Visit At Priority Pass Lounge, Bobby Van’s Grill- JFK Airport
