50% Off Citi Bike Passes In NYC

Screen Shot 2013-12-03 at 7.53.34 AMBack in April I wrote about a new bike share program coming to New York, Citi Bike.

I’ve seen bike share programs around the world, the first time being in Copenhagen. When I first heard of the bike share in Copenhagen, I had to try it out, especially since it was free. While the bikes weren’t great it was still a fun activity and a great way to get around. (Find out more about it in the link above.)

The biggest difference I noticed when I head about Citi Bike in NYC were the high costs to use the program if you wanted to use a bike for more than a short ride. The NY program is more beneficial to locals than a fun way for tourists to borrow bikes while visiting the city.

Joggling 26.2 Miles In The NYC Marathon

Who knew that some people like to juggle while running a marathon? I didn’t but here is how I found out.

On Sunday, November 3 the ING New York City Marathon was taking place around the 5 boroughs. Kim and I had the bright idea to head to Williamsburg, Brooklyn for brunch.

We made it there in record time but once we got near the area  that the marathon ran through, there was no way to drive any further. The streets were cordoned off with police roadblocks for what seemed like, everywhere! We were driving further and further from our destination and then decided to change plans and go elsewhere.

Finding Banksy In Coney Island

photo (6)

I’m not really a fan of art but was really interested in the excitement that Banksy caused around NYC during his month-long residency Better Out Than In.  For just about every day in October, Banksy debuted a new work of art ranging from moving pieces, sculptures and his typical graffiti around the 5 boroughs of NYC.

At first I didn’t pay much attention to the hype but then it got interesting when Banksy set up a stand by Central Park. A vendor was selling original Banksy pieces for only $60 but it didn’t lead to many sales. The few lucky people who made a purchase are sitting on a small gold mine if they ever figure out what they have.

I started following closer each day, checking to see what Banksy would come up with next. It was also fun to find out which boroughs and neighborhoods the pieces were placed in.

Recap: Our Visit To The Grub Street Food Festival

IMG_8317

On Sunday we spent a few hours eating and hanging out at the 4th Annual Grub Street Food Festival. We were lucky to have beautiful weather here in New York City.  There were lots of vendors at the festival selling a great variety of foods and desserts.

When we arrived (around noon) it wasn’t overly crowded and we didn’t have to wait on any lines when ordering but this soon changed. By 1:00-1:30 many booths had long lines and it was much harder to find a place to sit.

IMG_8320Prior to arriving at the festival I had a good idea as to which vendors we planned to try out. Some we’ve had before and a few others were new ones that we had read about thanks to Grub Street. It turned out that both our favorite meal  ande dessert were from places that we were trying for the first time. Lucas’ favorite was an old-time favorite of ours and we even took some home for his  dinner.

Here is what we ate:

Food:

IMG_8321Roberta’s is known for it’s amazing pizzas, among other things on their menu and it’s pretty much always a long wait at their restaurant in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Whenever I see them at a food event I have to get one of their pizzas. This time we went with the “Bee Sting” which is made with mozzarella, tomato, honey, soppressata, chili flake and chili oil.

Roberta’s Bee Sting pizza seemed to miss the mark. The amount of spice overpowered any of the other flavors. I do like a little spice in my food but it’s not the only flavor that I want to taste. Next time I’ll just go with a Margherita pizza.

Delta T4X Closing Concert With Ed Sheeran

Ed Sheeran
T4X SoHo, NYC

Last week I was excited to attend the Delta T4X closing party and concert in New York City. I had visited T4X previously and had a great time. (Read about my visit HERE.)

T4X was set to close on Wednesday, May, 22, two days before Terminal 4 (T4) opened at JFK Airport.

The concert featured Ed Sheeran, a singer that I had never heard of before. Based on the line of fans waiting to get a glimpse of him just outside the theater (made up of mostly young girls) I could tell that he was definitely a known performer. Last month I wrote about Shake Shack And Other Impressive Food Options coming to Delta’s Terminal 4. (The post was also featured on Boarding Area blog Delta Points)

The new T4 will feature the largest Sky Club including the first Sky Deck, a 2,000 square foot outdoor terrace, more check-in counters, new powered seating to charge your gadgets and some great dining options. I’d love to check out the new T4 when it opens but I’m not sure when I will be flying through there again.

Here is another way to get a sneak peek into Delta’s T4 before it opens on May 24.

Highlights Of The New York Travel Festival

a chandelier from the ceiling

I recently wrote about a new travel show that I would be attending on Saturday, April 20 called the New York Travel Festival.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the event. The festival’s goal was to reinvent the consumer travel show.

It turned out that the show was a big change from the NY Times show. The festival was much smaller and focused on seminars spread out over three floors of the beautiful Bohemian National Hall on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. There were also food tastings from the Hudson Valley as well as some excellent Mexican food to sample. Missing were table upon table of representatives from tourism boards and travel companies.
