Registration Open For The 2014 JFK Runway Run

Screen Shot 2013-12-10 at 11.21.41 PM

The date has been announced and registration is open for the 2014 JFK Runway Run 5K.

For those of you unsure of what a Runway Run is, here is a little info. A runway run is pretty much, exactly what it sounds like. It’s an organized race that takes place on airport runways. Runway runs are held at both large, international airports and smaller, regional airports.

After running in 4 Runway Runs in 2012, I only had the chance to run in 1 this year. I’m hoping to run in at least 2 runway runs in 2014 but that will all depend on my schedule. With lots of trips in the works for 2014, hopefully there wont be any conflicts.

Recap: Our Visit To The Grub Street Food Festival

IMG_8317

On Sunday we spent a few hours eating and hanging out at the 4th Annual Grub Street Food Festival. We were lucky to have beautiful weather here in New York City.  There were lots of vendors at the festival selling a great variety of foods and desserts.

When we arrived (around noon) it wasn’t overly crowded and we didn’t have to wait on any lines when ordering but this soon changed. By 1:00-1:30 many booths had long lines and it was much harder to find a place to sit.

IMG_8320Prior to arriving at the festival I had a good idea as to which vendors we planned to try out. Some we’ve had before and a few others were new ones that we had read about thanks to Grub Street. It turned out that both our favorite meal  ande dessert were from places that we were trying for the first time. Lucas’ favorite was an old-time favorite of ours and we even took some home for his  dinner.

Here is what we ate:

Food:

IMG_8321Roberta’s is known for it’s amazing pizzas, among other things on their menu and it’s pretty much always a long wait at their restaurant in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Whenever I see them at a food event I have to get one of their pizzas. This time we went with the “Bee Sting” which is made with mozzarella, tomato, honey, soppressata, chili flake and chili oil.

Roberta’s Bee Sting pizza seemed to miss the mark. The amount of spice overpowered any of the other flavors. I do like a little spice in my food but it’s not the only flavor that I want to taste. Next time I’ll just go with a Margherita pizza.

Help Save airbnb In New York

a blue and white logo

Don’t forget to check out my 2nd blogging anniversary post and enter my giveaway!

A little over 2 weeks back I wrote about how airbnb won a NYC appeal and members would be allowed to rent out rooms as long as a resident was home.

After hearing about this outcome I figured that airbnb would be safe and legal to use in NYC for years to come.

I received an e-mail from airbnb about signing a petition to change NY laws. The petition already has 3,500 signature but their goal is to get to 20,000. If the petition reaches that goal by October 20th an airbnb host Mishelle plans to personally deliver it to the NY senate.

TrueBlue Family Pooling - 46Last Thursday (October 10), Jetblue announced a way for families to earn award flights faster by combining their points with Family Pooling. Jetblue is the only airline in the U.S. to offer such an option but expects others to follow.

An Awesome Pizza Experience At Slice Out Hunger- NYC

Screen Shot 2013-10-06 at 11.46.39 PMA couple of days ago I wrote about an event that Kim, Lucas and I would be attending- Slice Out Hunger, NYC’s biggest pizza party for a good cause. 100% of the proceeds go to the Food Bank of New York City. Find out how one $1 slice of pizza become 12.5 meals in my previous post here.

Slice Out Hunger was created by Scott Wiener and is now in its fifth year. Scott is best known for his popular Pizza Tours around NYC. I took his pizza bus tour back in May and highly recommend taking one on a visit to NY or even if you live here.

The event was held last night and we had a great time & ate a lot of pizza! I hope to be able to attend every year as long as it continues to take place.

We arrived early so that we would get inside quickly once the doors opened. The event was scheduled to start at 6:00 so we arrived around 4:30. We figured that it was better to wait before the event rather than while it was going on, possibly missing out on the pizza.

Slice Out Hunger- NYC’s Biggest Pizza Party For A Good Cause

Screen Shot 2013-10-06 at 11.46.39 PMHow would you like to eat pizza from some great pizzerias around NYC for $1 per slice with all proceeds going to a great cause?

Here is some info:

Included in my ticket to the NY Trav Fest (back in April) was a spot on Scott’s Pizza Tours. The tour was a blast and we got to eat a lot of pizza at some great places and also learned quite a bit from Scott, our pizza obsessed guide.

During the tour Scott mentioned a charity event that he started a few years back called Slice Out Hunger. I kept the event in mind and hoped that we would be home when it came up.
