When visting a new place I always try to find and visit sites which are a bit off the beaten path. To help with finding such sites I search around online and also like to check sites like the travel forum Virtual Tourist.

Here are a few interesting/ odd sites that I’ve visited which come to mind:

Most Glorious Things To Ever Happen In An Airport

a large sculpture in a building

An airport isn’t the kind of place where you’d  go for a good laugh, to get easily amused or have amazing things happen. However, at times these kinds of things can happen at the airport.

The funniest things I’ve seen at the airport, was at the check-in counter.

The guy next to me was trying to check his 50 lb dumbells. Weird item, kind of interesting but what’s so funny? Southwest wanted to charge the man additional fees even though they allow 2 pieces of checked luggage for free, weighing up to 50lbs each. However, Southwest’s scale had said that the dumbbells each weighed 52 lbs. Due to this, the airline wanted to charge him a $50 fee.

More recently, I saw a girl placing an odd item into her carry-on while checking some luggage for a flight.

How Much Of The U.S. Have You Seen?

a mountain range with trees and textI like to consider myself a well-traveled person. During our travels, we try to see lots of sites and come away with lots of great, local experiences.

However, when it comes to seeing the United States, I feel like I haven’t seen nearly enough of the country. I didn’t have a ton of interest in exploring the US up until the past few years. On some of our local trip, I’ve definitely been impressed, especially during our week spent traveling around South Dakota. Continue reading How Much Of The U.S. Have You Seen?

a flag on a poleHow well do you know your significant other? Enough to pass a U.S. Immigration marriage interview? If you’re not so sure of the answer, Buzzfeed is here to help.

When I saw the title of the post from Buzzfeed, I had to laugh. The post, Could You And Your Partner Pass A U.S. Immigration Marriage Interview lists 46 potential questions that you could might get asked (during the interview).

The article states that your foreign spouse’s green card includes an in-person interview with the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services. The purpose of the interview is to find out if you marriage is real and not one just being done for the green card.

Many of you may have noticed that I’m a sucker for Buzzfeed (and other) travel-related quizzes.

Most of these quizzes are silly and don’t even ask legitimate travel questions but they are fun to take part in regardless.

33 Useful Websites You Never Knew Existed

a close-up of a computerIt’s always great to find new websites that can help out and be useful in one way or another. When I think of sites that fit this description, a site that I used to get a lot of use out of but no longer use comes to mind.

For most items on Amazon you need to spend $35 or more to get free shipping. It always annoyed me when I’d make  a shopping cart and find that my total was just pennies away from the required spend. This is where the Amazon Filler Item Finder would come in really handy. The way it works is, you enter in the amount you need to spend to get free shipping and a list of products close to that amount will come up. (The site can even be fun to type in random $ amounts to see what products will be suggested.)

Luckily I now have Amazon Prime so I never really have the need to use this site but for those of you who don’t pay for Prime or haven’t been luckily enough to have had it gifted to you, definitely check out Amazon Filler Item Finder.

85 Thoughts Everyone Has At The Airport

a yellow airplane with white text

You’re at the airport killing time before your flight. Some of you might be enjoying a visit to the (usually over-rated in my opinion) airline lounge. If you’re traveling alone, you might wonder who will be seated next to you. Others will worry about overhead bin space.

I usually wonder if the flight will leave on time and also hope that there will be a decent movie selection (since I pretty much, never go to the movies anymore). Since Lucas has been born, I may have seen 2-3 movies in the theater. (On the way to Milan last week, I was glad to catch an amazing movie- 12 Years A Slave.)
