Our Mid-West Mini Roadtrip In A Nutshell

$348.65 + 71,906 Points= Trip For 3: Air, Hotel & Car Rental

Earlier in the summer, Kim, Lucas and I spent five days checking out a part of the U.S. that was pretty much new to us during our Mid-West Mini Roadtrip.

While there weren’t really any amazing sites and things to visit, it was still a fun trip for a relatively low cost. It actually ended up being a great trip for Lucas due to the amount of things that we visited which appealed to him.

During our long drive from Kansas City, Missouri to Omaha, Lucas got to see lots of trains. We also stopped at a couple of transit museums which were right up his alley!

A highlight for me was getting to finally try out some of Kansas City’s famous barbecue! Continue reading Our Mid-West Mini Roadtrip In A Nutshell

An Encounter With A Top Chef

a man standing next to a statueWhile looking into things to do during Our Mid-West Mini Road Trip, I came across a site that I had to make a quick stop at. It has no admission fees and you’ll likely only need a couple of minutes there, but to me it is well worth it.

The site isn’t much to talk about, it’s a statue of a very famous chef- Chef Boyardee!

When I first heard about the Chef Boyardee statue, I thought of our visit last year to Milwaukee where we had a lot of fun visiting the Bronze Fonz. (If you click the link make sure to scroll down the page to find out about it.) Continue reading An Encounter With A Top Chef

A Bridge Which Crosses Borders

a man standing on a bridge

Recently we went on a Mid-West Mini Road Trip in which we visited sites in 4 states in about 6 days. (A trip recap should be coming soon.)

While driving through Iowa on the way to Nebraska I was a bit disappointed.

The Welcome to Nebraska sign was on the middle of a busy highway. There would be no pulling over to take some photos which was definitely annoying.

Amazing Art At The Berlin Wall

a man jumping in front of a wall with graffiti

Back in September 2013, Kim, Lucas and I headed to Germany for the main purpose of attending Oktoberfest. Rather than just go for the festival, we started out in Berlin, a city that I we really enjoyed checking out.

When I think of Berlin, the first thing that comes to mind is the Berlin Wall. Although it divided the city for close to 30 years, the remaining segments have been (mostly) turned into works of art. (This was my first time seeing the wall in its original home but I did get to see it in Las Vegas and Albania.) Continue reading Amazing Art At The Berlin Wall

A Burger Worth Waiting For: Holeman & Finch, Atlanta

Holeman & Finch Burger

Burgers rank up their as my favorite food just behind pizza. When visiting a new city, I always try to seek out what’s considered to be the best burger out there.

Since starting my blog, I’ve written about burgers many times. (There are links to some of them at the end of this post.)

I heard about Holeman & Finch Public House a few years back on one of the food-related television shows. I wasn’t sure which show featured it so I went to the trusty TV Food Maps app to look it up.

Holeman and Finch can be a very hard burger to get your hands on. Each night only 24 burgers are made. Burger time is at 10:00 PM but you can reserve your burger at any time during service. Continue reading A Burger Worth Waiting For: Holeman & Finch, Atlanta

Uber Adjusts Fare, Refunds Me $24

a logo of a companyA couple of weeks back I finally got to try out Uber while in Atlanta. After the ride, I couldn’t figure out what the big deal was and asked if anyone could explain.

During our Uber ride, we were given an estimate of $28-$36 to take us from the Delta Flight Museum to Turner Field. Since I had a $35 Uber credit this seemed like a great time to use it. After a bit of traffic, it turned out that our fare came to $55.

A short while after the ride ended, a short survey came up in the Uber app. It asked to rate the driver from 1-5 and leave comments about the ride (or something to that extent).

Trip Planning: Dominican Republic

Back in November I heard about Black Friday & Cyber Monday deals for a couple of all-inclusives in the Dominican Republic through CheapCaribbean.com.

Although I am not a relax on the beach or all-inclusive kind of traveler, for the low price deals being offered it seemed worth looking into. (Kim enjoys these kinds of trips at times, so I figured I’d try to book one of the deals.)

For me, it was about the deal and getting to visit another country (although I doubt I will see much where we are going).

I passed on the Black Friday option since the dates weren’t good for us and decided to book the Cyber Monday deal to Puerto Plata. Continue reading Trip Planning: Dominican Republic

Our Visit To Malta (& Milan) In A Nutshell

Screen Shot 2014-04-12 at 1.06.21 AM

It’s been over a month since we got back from our trip to Malta & Milan so its time for a little recap.

Getting to Europe was a bit of a pain since we needed to take three flights to get there. However, for the price we paid ($258.12 per person), I’d definitely do it again. We arrived in Milan and spent the first and last day there. In between we spent six really enjoyable days on the island of Malta.

Milan wasn’t a city that we were overly excited about visiting but we figured that for parts of 2 days we could figure out enough to do.

After stopping by our hotel which was just outside of the downtown area, (very easy to get to by train from the airport) we headed into the city and made our first stop at Sforza Castle. Within the castle were a bunch of museums but we didn’t visit any of them. We wandered around the grounds which were very lively and pretty much like a public park. Lucas enjoyed running around the grounds for a while so this was definitely a good way to start our visit. Continue reading Our Visit To Malta (& Milan) In A Nutshell

Atlanta Trip Planning

A couple of weeks back we went to Atlanta over the holiday weekend. The first question we kept getting was- why Atlanta? My reasoning was no different than most of our other trips: Why not? The two main things I wanted to do were to check out another baseball stadium, Turner Field- home of the Atlanta Braves. And secondly,  just to visit a new state (although we only got to visit one city in Georgia).

Putting together our trip was relatively easy and cheap thanks to miles & points. Without miles & points I doubt that we would’ve taken this trip at all. It woud have been a pretty costly long weekend.

During our trip, the weather in Atlanta was really nice. It was pretty hot but with little humidity- making for some pretty comfortable weather. We did get caught in the rain heading back from the Braves game during our last day but it didn’t mess up our plans!

Delta Flight Museum Just Re-Opened, It’s Awesome

a man jumping in front of a buildingWhen I booked our flight to Atlanta I was disappointed to hear that the Delta Flight Museum was closed for renovations. It was actually supposed to reopen a few weeks after we were in town.

I decided to give the museum a call anyway just to be safe. If the museum was open, it was an attraction that I didn’t want to miss. I was surprised when someone answered the phone and told me that the museum had actually opened a bit earlier than planned!

I checked out the museum’s website (where it still stated it would be reopening mid- June) and tickets were for sale. I decided to hold off on buying them just in case something came up and we couldn’t make it. This ended up being a great move. A $12 per person entry fee would’ve cost Kim and I over $25 with tax, but when we arrived we were told that entry was free for now since there was no way for them to collect the money!

Score! An earlier than expected opening plus no fee to get in!
