Hotel Strategy For Our Road Trip- Don’t Book More Than A Day In Advance!

Road Trip

Over Winter Break 2019 the Michael W Travels family went on a Deep South Road Trip.

Along the way (we live in Brooklyn, NY) we made stops in states like Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Alabama and North Carolina.

Kim and I wanted to keep this trip as flexible as possible. We didn’t want to be tied down to a set plan of where to overnight. We wanted to be able to stay and enjoy a place longer or return to a missed place on the way back if weather wasn’t on our side. Back in April, Lucas and I went on our first Father- Son Trip to Poland. Kim didn’t come along due to being grounded until Baby W Travels arrives!

Now its time for our second Father- Son Trip, however this time we’re heading to a destination that I wouldn’t have picked if I had a choice. But we are going for a great price.

We’re heading to Mexico! Continue reading $0 + 0 Miles or Points= Trip for 2 To Mexico!

Shocking: Great United Customer Service!

united customer serviceI recently wrote about how I used my $300 United credit from a flight cancellation to book a flight to Atlanta for the Freddie Awards.

When I booked my flight back in January, I didn’t know much more than the date of the ceremony. I wasn’t sure what time it started or if there would be other related things going on due to it.

My original booking was flying out of Newark Airport at 12:22 pm, arriving in Atlanta at 2:45 pm. I figured that this would give us ample time to get to our airport hotel, freshen up, change and get over to the event on time.

Then I got a notification that our flight had changed. Continue reading Shocking: Great United Customer Service!

How I Used My $300 United Credit From A Flight Cancellation

United CreditBack in early 2014, Kim, Lucas and I took our first trip of the year to Norway.

Our flight home got cancelled due to an approaching winter storm back in the NYC area. I then wrote more about the situation in the post, Hey United, I want my $158+ back. And then there was a update on that post. As the situation progressed there was even a second update.

After waiting a bit, United got back to me asking for the original receipts for my expenses due to the flight cancellation which I did not have. Continue reading How I Used My $300 United Credit From A Flight Cancellation

Pardon the Interruption, We’re Heading to Myanmar (Burma)

Myanmar Burma

With our spring break finally here, (we’re leaving a couple of days early) it’s time to head off on one of our bigger trips of the year. I’d also consider it one of our more ambitious destinations to visit with a toddler.

When selecting where to go this time around we knew wanted  to head back to Asia but had no clear-cut destination in mind. Continue reading Pardon the Interruption, We’re Heading to Myanmar (Burma)

Trip Planning: $140.18 + 65,000 Points= Trip for 3 To Orlando

We’ll be leaving on our first trip of 2015 tomorrow morning which will be a quick one.

This weekend I’ll miss watching the Super Bowl for what I can recall, the first time ever since we’ll be on our way home from Orlando, Florida.

I know, Orlando isn’t the most exciting destination (and not one that I’ve visited yet or have really cared to then again). However, when considering that Disney’s Magic Kingdom ranks at the top of most visited tourist attractions in the world & Epcot isn’t far behind, the time has come for us to finally see what the fuss is all about. Where Did We Go In 2014

Travel Destinations 2014

2014 was another great year for travel here at Michael W Travels!

The year got off to a great start thanks to some incredible (mistake? sale?) fares we booked through Wideroe to Europe in the first third of the year.

Since Kim and I don’t travel for work, all of our trips are for leisure- unless you consider our trip to Las Vegas for BAcon a work trip! I didn’t. Continue reading Where Did We Go In 2014

The Best Flight Connection Ever

The Points Guy

On Christmas Day, Kim, Lucas and I got up at around 3:25 AM to get ready to head to the airport for our flight to Jamaica. (Well Lucas didn’t exactly wake up…)

(Our flight to Jamaica would bring us to Atlanta for a quick stop of around an hour or so before heading on to Montego Bay.)

While on the way to the airport I came across a very interesting tweet from The Points Guy. Continue reading The Best Flight Connection Ever

With less than a week left in 2014, Kim, Lucas and I will be heading off on our last trip of the year this morning. (We’re probably almost through our first flight at the time this is posting!)

We’re squeezing in one last international trip to a place that none of us have been before.

We’ll be heading back to the Caribbean to explore the island of Jamaica! Continue reading Trip Planning: $895.80 + 72,580 Points= Trip for 3 To Jamaica
