jetblue logo

I came across a very interesting article from the Huffington Post. According to the article, JetBlue seems to be a really helpful airline and really good for us, the consumer.

When JetBlue starts flying a domestic route, ticket prices on that route drop by 50% on average.

The information found for this research was compiled by travel research company Hopper. You can check out their findings about JetBlue impacting domestic routes here.

7 Apps To Tackle In-Flight Boredom

USAToday

I’m not a big user of apps or games on my phone but there are a few that I do get lots of use out of.

When traveling, I find TripIt and Currency to be extremely useful. TripIt is also essential when planning trips. I also get lots of use out of AwardWallet which is great for keeping track of all of those easy to forget frequent flyer account #s and passwords.

During flights I’ll use my phone for a few minutes here and there to kill some time. If I have wifi, I’ll usually just surf the web. When I don’t have wifi, which happens to be the majority of the time I might play (the free versions) of Temple Run or the puzzle game KaGlom for 5-10 minutes to pass a little time during the flight.

Thanks to a USA Today article that I recently came across, I now have some new apps to consider using to stay busy and maybe even be a bit more productive during flights.

10 National Park Experiences Of A Lifetime

Devils Tower from our trip in July 2012

When it comes to travel, we tend to pick many more international destinations than domestic ones around America. However, in recent years we’ve been trying to make it a point to see more of our amazing country.

In recent years we’ve spent time in Florida, Kentucky, Minnesota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin (and a few others that I’ve probably left out). During some of the trips we had the opportunity to visit some National Parks like Badlands, the Everglades, the Grand Canyon and Mammoth Cave. We’ve also visited other parks which are designated as National Monuments & Historis Sites. In the future, I’d love to get to more of these parks and sites

Hotels With Unique Concierges

Screen Shot 2014-04-18 at 7.41.36 PM

Earlier in the month I wrote about a Conde Naste Travel article:  Odd Hotel Assistant Jobs That Really Exist.

The article mentioned some pretty strange jobs which were definitely interesting to hear about as well as a good laugh!

I just came across another article with a very similar topic. The article, from Forbes Travel Guide is about Five Hotels With Unique Concierges.

85 Thoughts Everyone Has At The Airport

a yellow airplane with white text

You’re at the airport killing time before your flight. Some of you might be enjoying a visit to the (usually over-rated in my opinion) airline lounge. If you’re traveling alone, you might wonder who will be seated next to you. Others will worry about overhead bin space.

I usually wonder if the flight will leave on time and also hope that there will be a decent movie selection (since I pretty much, never go to the movies anymore). Since Lucas has been born, I may have seen 2-3 movies in the theater. (On the way to Milan last week, I was glad to catch an amazing movie- 12 Years A Slave.)

Your Recent AAdvantage Award Redemption…

AA-NewLogo

The day before heading off on our current trip to Milan and Malta I was busy booking a flight for one of our other trips. This particular trip will take place towards the end of the summer.

Over the years I’ve booked many flights with AAdvantage miles. The most recent one was for a trip in late June 2013 to Japan. After booking each of our award flights, I remember getting a confirmation e-mail relatively fast.

For my most recent booking it was a little different.

11 Summer Music Festivals To Consider

a large crowd of people in a parkBack in college many summers were filled with attending concerts, especially a couple of music festivals. I used to love spending long days at packed venues like Randall’s Island (in NYC) hearing lots of great music with friends.

The two festivals that I had attended were Lollapalooza and HORDE Festival. Both events featured artists performing on multiple stages and traveled around the country to various cities. Lollapalooza still exists after a reboot and only plays a couple of shows per year, HORDE’s last show was in 1998.

I can’t say that I’m really interested in concerts anymore but memories of those music festivals still stand out.

How Many Countries Can You Name in 15 Minutes?

a map of the worldI’m not much of a fan of video or computer games. I feel like there’s much better things to be doing with my time like writing a travel blog!

However, there is one game that I love to play from time to time…

A few years back I came across a fun online game where you are given 15 minutes to find out: Can you name the countries of the world?

World’s Ultimate Desert Dares

a screenshot of a social media post

Over the years, I’ve visited various deserts while traveling around the world. A few that come to mind are Wadi Rum in Jordan,  the Namib Desert in Namibia and taking a desert jeep safari (aka Dune Bashing) in Dubai.

The scenery is pretty amazing but the heat can make things a bit uncomfortable not to mention there being little refuge from the sun.

Lonely Planet put together a list of The World’s Ultimate Desert Dares which includes 10 challenges. The challenges were taken from Lonely Planet’s 1,000 Ultimate Adventures.

How Not To Embarass Yourself In A Foreign Country

budgtrave

Around a week back I wrote about a Yahoo slideshow featuring 10 Hand Gestures To Never Use Abroad. The slideshow showed how easy it could be to offend people while visiting a new place and doing something as simple as a hand gesture innocently.

Soon after writing about the “Hand Gestures” slideshow, I came across another article related to this potential offense (while traveling abroad).

Budget Travel has an article with some interesting tips on How Not To Embarrass Yourself In A Foreign Country.
