A Visit to the Oldest Pizzeria in the US: Papa’s Tomato Pies

tomato piesLombardi’s claims to be the first and oldest pizzeria in America, having opened in 1905. The issue with Lombardi’s claim is that it closed in 1984 and didn’t open again until 10 years later, in a new location.

Lombardi’s does make excellent pies and I definitely recommend a visit if you’re in NYC.

Since Lombardi’s closed for a decade, what is the oldest operating pizzeria in the U.S. now? Continue reading A Visit to the Oldest Pizzeria in the US: Papa’s Tomato Pies

Calling All AvGeeks: Open Cockpit Weekend at Teterboro Airport

Teterboro Airport

In July 2012, Kim, my brother and I ran in the Teterboro Airport 5K Runway Run.

During the visit to Teterboro, I had also hoped to visit the Aviation Hall of Fame & Museum of New Jersey after the run. However, it was a really hot day and we were exhausted from the race, so we passed.

My brother just sent me some info about a great reason to visit the Aviation HOF of NJ this weekend! Continue reading Calling All AvGeeks: Open Cockpit Weekend at Teterboro Airport

Diggerland Construction Theme Park- 1st Anniversary Event Coming Up

Diggerland NJ

In July 2014 Kim, Lucas and I visited Diggerland, an awesome construction-theme park in West Berlin, New Jersey.

We had lots of fun trying out many of the rides at the park. And funny as it sounds, Lucas still talks about it, asking when we can go back all of the time! We are planning to head back to Diggerland soon but we’ve been so busy. Hopefully we’ll get back there this summer. Review: Diggerland, An Awesome Construction Theme Park

I recently wrote about America’s Wackiest Theme Parks which was based on an article from Yahoo Travel. While I don’t enjoy rides and am not much of a theme park fan, a few parks from the list sounded like they could be a lot of fun.

A couple of days after writing my post, I was happy to get invited to a park from the list that (I’d probably say) I most wanted to visit. Best of all, it happened to be only around a 2 hour drive from home!

This past Saturday, Kim, Lucas and I headed to Diggerland USA to see just what this “Construction Theme Park” was all about.  Continue reading Review: Diggerland, An Awesome Construction Theme Park

Jumping at the Teterboro Airport Runway Run 5K

A great place for a jump

In July 2012 Kim and I ran in the Teterboro Airport 5K Runway Run in New Jersey. For some reason or another, I never wrote a post or shared my photos from the race. After writing about the date being announced for the 2013 JFK Runway Run it inspired me to share some photos from the Teterboro 5K.

At Tererboro, strollers were not allowed on the runway so Lucas had to sit this race out. Kim waited to sign up for the run on race day just to be sure somebody would be willing to watch Lucas. Luckily our sister-in-law was up to the task (not so hard since Lucas slept the whole time) and Kim got to run!

Lucy the Elephant- Margate, New Jersey

Lucy is a quick drive from Atlantic City and designated a National Historic Landmark.
.
If you pay for the tour, you get to go inside by climbing up a staircase inside one of Lucy’s legs. Inside there is a small museum with various artifacts. There are also some nice panoramic views from the howdah (the canopy seat on top of the elephant)
