A Long Junk-Foodie Layover in Los Angeles

a large donut on top of a buildingOn the way to the Pacific, the Michael W Travels family had a long layover in Los Angeles. During our time we had to deal with The Most Expensive Luggage Storage Ever.

I booked our flights from JFK to LAX and LAX to NAN using points on different airlines.  We chose  to have the long layover in Los Angeles since we didn’t want to take a chance on missing our international flight.  We initially figured that it would be a good opportunity to wander around LA.

However, in LA things are really spread out, Uber rides can be pricey and traffic could be a real pain. Continue reading A Long Junk-Foodie Layover in Los Angeles

Pittsburgh, PA- An Incredibly Kid-Friendly Destination!

Pittsburgh PA

Last week, Lucas and I headed off on a trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This was our first Father-Son Trip since last summer.

Some of you might be thinking Pittsburgh PA, wow, how glamorous. Right? You can be honest! The truth is that I’ve wanted to visit The ‘Burgh for years, primarily to check out PNC Park, home of the Pittsburgh Pirates and to try a sandwich from Primanti Bros. Jumping By The Most Awesome UNESCO World Heritage Sites Marker

Whenever I travel to new places I check to see if any UNESCO World Heritage Sites are nearby.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites can be really interesting while others can be pretty boring. Overall, I’ve been to 112 sites to date and most were worthy of a visit.

Most UNESCO World Heritage Sites are commemorated with some sort of marker or plaque, listing various info about the site. During a trip to Poland with Lucas, the Wieliczka Salt Mine really impressed. After seeing amazing salt carvings deep in the mine, we came across this awesome UNESCO marker while exiting. Cancelled Flights- Lucas & I Get Home on AA Flight That Doesn’t Really Exist!

Lucas and I got home late last night from Pittsburgh. It should’ve been a quick one hour flight.

We were scheduled to fly at 5:50 PM from PIT, getting us into New York’s LaGuardia at 7:14 PM. When we arrived at the gate, it seemed busy but nothing unusual. After standing around for a few minutes, I noticed that the screen said now boarding for a 2:45 flight which was switched to 5:30!

This got me curious. If the flight before ours was delayed, then our flight most likely would be too. Continue reading Cancelled Flights- Lucas & I Get Home on AA Flight That Doesn’t Really Exist!

Visiting the Bog Bodies at the National Museum of Ireland

bog bodies

In February 2017, the Michael W Travels family took a quick trip to Ireland.

We spent a few days in Dublin where we visited the Guinness Storehouse, checked out some pubs and also visited some other interesting sights. We made sure to get out of Dublin for one day taking a quick visit to Northern Ireland and the Giant’s Causeway.

Besides the usual attractions in Dublin, there were a couple of odd sites that I had to visit. Continue reading Visiting the Bog Bodies at the National Museum of Ireland

A Great Experience: Korea Baseball Organization- LG Twins Game

LG Twins

While traveling I love going to see local sports when possible.

Here are some sporting events I’ve been to:

  • Soccer in Scotland and Lithuania
  • Aussie Rules Football in Sydney, Australia
  • Rugby in New Zealand
  • Kickboxing in Thailand

Then there’s my favorite sport- Baseball! I’ve been to lots of MLB games/ stadiums in the US (and Canada- the Blue Jays). We’ve also been to professional games in Japan and Cuba. Continue reading A Great Experience: Korea Baseball Organization- LG Twins Game

A Quick Visit to Northern Ireland and the Giant’s Causeway

Giant’s Causeway

In February 2017, the Michael W Travels family visited Ireland for the first time. While I would’ve liked to have had more time to see the country, we made sure to take one day-trip out of Dublin.

While debating where to go, Kim and I narrowed our choices down to the Cliffs of Moher or Giant’s Causeway.

After debating what our best option was (I don’t think either would be a bad choice), we decided on a trip to the Giant’s Causeway. This trip would take us to Northern Ireland which is actually part of the United Kingdom. Continue reading A Quick Visit to Northern Ireland and the Giant’s Causeway

Did JetBlue Compensate Me For A Broken IFE?

JetBlue

There are a bunch of reasons why we like flying with JetBlue.

The airline offers a good amount of legroom, free snacks, free Wifi (with their FlyFi service) and entertainment options like DirecTV and movies.

While I rarely watch movies anymore, I do like to pass the time during a flight watching (a movie) unless I’m busy tending to one of the kids. (Lucas is good on his own during flights unless he needs to take a trip to the restroom.) Continue reading Did JetBlue Compensate Me For A Broken IFE?

What Did We Try At McDonald’s Korea?

mcdonald's korea

During our trip to South Koreawe arrived late in Seoul tired and hungry. While I would’ve liked to have had some local food, Kim and I decided that we needed to be quick and play it safe for our first meal. In the process we’d still get to check off something we do when visiting a new country.

There was a McDonald’s across the street from our guesthouse so it was a good time to check out what local menu items might be available. Lucas would be happy to visit to get a toy! Win, win! Continue reading What Did We Try At McDonald’s Korea?

The Most Comfortable Airport Transfer Ever

IMG_7956

The Michael W Travels family took a trip to South Korea recently during Spring Break.

We ended our visit by staying for a couple of nights at the really nice Intercontinental Seoul COEX hotel.

We wanted to save money on our airport transfer and hoped that we wouldn’t need to take a private taxi which are both pricey and low in space when you’re traveling with four people. Continue reading The Most Comfortable Airport Transfer Ever
