Uber Adjusts Fare, Refunds Me $24

a logo of a companyA couple of weeks back I finally got to try out Uber while in Atlanta. After the ride, I couldn’t figure out what the big deal was and asked if anyone could explain.

During our Uber ride, we were given an estimate of $28-$36 to take us from the Delta Flight Museum to Turner Field. Since I had a $35 Uber credit this seemed like a great time to use it. After a bit of traffic, it turned out that our fare came to $55.

A short while after the ride ended, a short survey came up in the Uber app. It asked to rate the driver from 1-5 and leave comments about the ride (or something to that extent).

Uber Delivering Air Conditioners In NYC

a white rectangular object with textAfter trying out Uber for the first time while in Atlanta I didn’t really get what the big deal was about the service. Check out my post about it here.

While I didn’t love using Uber, I do love it when they run their random, odd promos and offers!

Uber is back with a special offer for New York City called #UberCOOL. They have teamed up with Quirky + GE to bring on-demand delivery of Aros- the world’s smartest air conditioner. Continue reading Uber Delivering Air Conditioners In NYC

Win A Trip For 2 To Paris & Year’s Worth of Chocolate

a dog in a hat and a green lawn with trees

I received an e-mail from Hipmunk about an amazing trip to Paris being given away along with a year’s worth of chocolate in the Travel the World through Chocolate Sweepstakes.

Paris and chocolate sound like a great pairing so I’d love to win this prize. I was in Paris years ago and have talked about visiting again some day. Winning this prize would be a great excuse to head back! As for the chocolate, Vosges makes really yummy, high quality stuff so you can’t go wrong (well maybe your waistline could).

Uber- Can Someone Please Explain The Big Deal?

a logo of a companyOver the holiday weekend, Kim, Lucas and I spent a few days in Atlanta. While there we got great use out of our four-day MARTA passes. They were well worth the $19 we paid per person (Lucas was free). The pass allows for unlimited rides on trains and buses.

While the buses and trains come pretty regularly, at times it can be a long ride. For instance a 12 minute car ride might take around an hour on MARTA public transit.

Due to this I decided to finally try out Uber and burn my $35 credit that I earned from signing up and a couple of referrals.

Uber’s Pricey Valentine’s Day Promo- UberSky

Screen Shot 2014-02-13 at 4.08.39 PMUber is back with another fun, yet extremely pricey holiday promotion.

For Valentine’s Day, Uber has teamed up with Mastercard & Airsign to offer On-Demand SkyWriting to New York City.

UberSky will be available for $500!

Yes, you read that right $500! I’ve never looked into skywriting so I have no idea whether or not this is a high or low-cost, then again based on what I am reading, I don’t think I ever will.

Uber Reminder About Surge Pricing For New Years Eve

Screen Shot 2013-12-30 at 10.00.28 PM

With New Years Eve coming tonight Uber sent out an e-mail to give some quick pro tips for getting around with Uber. The main purpose of the message is to inform everybody that Surge Pricing will be in effect during certain hours of the evening.

When I started skimming over the e-mail, I immediately felt that this message went out to remind (warn) potential Uber users in advance of upcoming ridiculously high prices if you plan to use the service.

$94 For 2 Mile Cab Ride: Uber’s Surge Pricing In NYC Last Weekend

Screen Shot 2013-12-18 at 11.35.30 PMReminder: I’m giving away 2 American Airlines Admiral Club Passes. Enter for a chance to win HERE.

When I think of Uber, their fun, gimmicky offers usually come to mind. They’ve recently delivered kittens, Christmas trees and had an UberSLEIGH Toy Drive in NYC.

While I haven’t used Uber and know their prices tend to be higher than taxis or traditional car services, I was shocked by an article that Kim sent me a couple of days back.

The article from Gothamist, Uber’s Snow Storm Surge Pricing Gouged New Yorkers Big Time is pretty unbelievable. I think my jaw dropped a few times while reading it.

Last Saturday, NYC was hit with some pretty crappy weather. We had some snow during the day and icy rain at night. Due to the poor weather, Uber put in place an extremely pricey feature called Surge Pricing.

The UberSLEIGH Toy Drive Is Coming To New York

Screen Shot 2013-12-10 at 5.15.49 PM

Although I’ve never used Uber, I love all of the interesting & odd promotions that they come up with.

The first Uber promo that I can recall was over the summer when they delivered ice cream in various cities around the country. The next promo that stood out was in late October. Uber delivered kittens for National Cat Day.

Uber started off the holiday season on December 5 by delivering Christmas trees on-demand for one day. I was a bit surprised that Uber did not run a Thanksgivukkah promotion.

Now Uber would like to help spread the holiday cheer, looking for help in giving back.
