The Love Supreme

It’s no secret that I love (possibly obsess over) pizza.

Being that I live in Brooklyn, NY there is no shortage of great pizzerias close by. Within a 15 minutes drive of where we live, Kim and I can visit 3 great places- the original Totonno’s, L & B Spumoni Gardens and what’s considered to be one of the best in the country- DiFara.

Over the years pizza has been a part of our travels and I’ve written a few pizza-related posts.

All areas of interest seem to have their experts. When it comes to pizza, especially around the NYC area, two people come to mind- Scott Wiener of Scott’s Pizza Tours and Adam Kuban, the founder of pizza blog Slice. Continue reading Margot’s Pizza: An Awesome Pizzeria Within A Pizzeria, Bklyn, NY

An Awesome Pizza Experience At Slice Out Hunger- NYC

Screen Shot 2013-10-06 at 11.46.39 PMA couple of days ago I wrote about an event that Kim, Lucas and I would be attending- Slice Out Hunger, NYC’s biggest pizza party for a good cause. 100% of the proceeds go to the Food Bank of New York City. Find out how one $1 slice of pizza become 12.5 meals in my previous post here.

Slice Out Hunger was created by Scott Wiener and is now in its fifth year. Scott is best known for his popular Pizza Tours around NYC. I took his pizza bus tour back in May and highly recommend taking one on a visit to NY or even if you live here.

The event was held last night and we had a great time & ate a lot of pizza! I hope to be able to attend every year as long as it continues to take place.

We arrived early so that we would get inside quickly once the doors opened. The event was scheduled to start at 6:00 so we arrived around 4:30. We figured that it was better to wait before the event rather than while it was going on, possibly missing out on the pizza.

Slice Out Hunger- NYC’s Biggest Pizza Party For A Good Cause

Screen Shot 2013-10-06 at 11.46.39 PMHow would you like to eat pizza from some great pizzerias around NYC for $1 per slice with all proceeds going to a great cause?

Here is some info:

Included in my ticket to the NY Trav Fest (back in April) was a spot on Scott’s Pizza Tours. The tour was a blast and we got to eat a lot of pizza at some great places and also learned quite a bit from Scott, our pizza obsessed guide.

During the tour Scott mentioned a charity event that he started a few years back called Slice Out Hunger. I kept the event in mind and hoped that we would be home when it came up.

Patsy Grimaldi Returns: Julianna’s Pizza- Brooklyn, NY

a brick oven with a red sign above it
Back in 1998 Patsy Grimaldi sold his famous and successful pizzeria Grimaldi’s which is located under the Brooklyn Bridge.
.
The Grimaldi’s brand went on to expand to various locations around the country.
.
Fast forward to 2012. The owners lost the lease on the original Grimaldi’s in Brooklyn and had to leave the coal oven behind.

Patsy Grimaldi regretted selling off his beloved pizzeria and recently had an opportunity to get back into the pizza business in his original spot. From what I understand, Patsy went partners with the owners of the building at 19 Old Fulton Street while Grimaldi’s moved to the corner at 1 Front Street. Here’s the catch. Grimaldi’s could not bring the historical coal oven with them. Apparently, coal ovens are illegal to install but if they are already existing they are grandfathered in. So Patsy got his original oven back.

Food Review: Pizza Pot Pie- Chicago

a sign on a building

While putting together a list of places to visit for my (recent) trip to Chicago I remembered hearing  about a restaurant that made a very interesting and unique kind of pizza.

I had seen the restaurant on TV a few years back but had a little problem- I had no clue what it’s name was! However I did remember that they made an upside-down pizza.

Chicago is known for it’s awesome deep dish pizza so I figured this place would be relatively easy to find since it was so different. While searching online I came up empty handed at first..
