I just saw a tweet from one of my favorite television food personalities about a contest with a great prize.

Andrew Zimmern tweeted about a contest where you could win a trip for two to the New York City Food and Wine Festival which takes place  from October 17-20.

The prize includes: Continue reading Win A Trip For 2 to the New York City Wine & Food Festival

Recap: North Face Endurance Race Weekend- Bear Mountain, NY

Even when we are not traveling, Kim and I like to keep busy and do and see things in our city (New York) or around the tri-state area. We are always visiting new restaurants, street fairs, festivals and exploring new neighborhood…
.
Especially when traveling with a child, I think it makes sense to make a weekend out of activities that are a bit further from home. For us it’s more about balancing things that we enjoy and activities that will entertain the little one.
.
A couple of weeks ago I ran in the North Face Endurance Challenge 5K for the second year in a row. (Check out my post about last year’s race HERE)
Last year the race kicked my butt and after doing it a second time I’ll say that this is definitely the toughest race that I’ve entered.
.
I guess that I like torturing myself because I’m already looking towards next year’s race and thinking about entering the 10K race. Kind of crazy since I’ve haven’t yet run a 10K!
.
The race took place upstate New York at Bear Mountain State Park. Due to the early start we slept in the vicinity of the park. I wasn’t going to just head up there at night to sleep so we headed upstate early and made a mini-trip out of it.

Citi Bike- NYC Bike Share Program Memberships On Sale

a blue and white logo
The first time I saw a bike share program was during my first trip to Copenhagen. The bikes were pretty crappy and rarely available at the docking areas. One positive about the program was that borrowing a bike was free. I’m not sure of the exact amount, but from what I recall we had to put in a €1 coin to get a bike. Once you returned your bike to one of the docking areas, your coin was returned. I tested out one of the bikes for a half hour or so and it was a fun way to spend a little time during the visit.
(I recently read that the bike share program in Copenhagen was recently discontinued.)
.
Over a year ago I heard that a bike share program would be coming to NYC. Right away, memories of the bikes in Copenhagen came to mind. I definitely felt that adding a bike share program to NY would be a great addition. It could be another fun activity if you don’t own a bike or it could be used just to get around the city.
.
One big different with the NYC bike share program (called Citi Bike), is that the bikes are not free to use. To use a bike, you need to purchase an annual membership or an access pass good for 24 hours or 7 days.

Shake Shack and Other Impressive Food Options Coming to Deltas Terminal 4

Yesterday I mentioned a post that I wrote for Rene over at Delta Points. For those of you that didn’t get a chance to read it there, here it is.

Over the last 2+ years Delta has been renovating and expanding JFK Airport’s Terminal 4. The expansion has a budget of $1.2 billion and will replace Terminal 3 for Delta’s international flights out of the airport.

Many improvements and upgrades are on the way including:

  • Two rows of check- in counters
  • A new, automated baggage handling system
  • Security check points being consolidated into one area which allows for all of the retail and food options to be behind security
  • An additional 9 international gates, giving Delta a total of 16 at JFK
  • Larger waiting areas
  • Additional, new and powered seating for charging your electronic devices
  • The largest Sky Club Delta has to offer

The Sky Club will have 24,000 square feet of space and include the first ever Delta Sky Deck, a 2,000 square foot outdoor terrace. The Sky Deck will offer guests amazing views of Manhattan which I’d definitely love to get a chance to see. The Sky Deck sounds like a great addition for an airport lounge.

A Swim With the Coney Island Polar Bears- Brooklyn, NY

While out for dinner last night I came up with a great idea for something to do on New Years Day. Since the weather has been so nice in NY recently, I figured it was time to join the Coney Island Polar Bear Club for their annual New Years Day Swim!
 .
When I brought it up to my wife, she thought it sounded like a good idea since I’ve wanted to do this for a while now. Also, when else is it going to be 50 degrees in January in NY?
