NY Drivers License Good For Domestic Flights For Another Year

NY Drivers License

Last month I wrote that NY driver’s licenses + 3 other states won’t be valid for domestic flights starting next year. This was due to the Real ID Act.

This led me to look into what counts as a valid form of ID for domestic flights. With all of this ID talk when it comes to domestic flights, I found it surprising that if you forget your ID, you could still fly!

I just came across some important news from Gothamist which is great for New Yorkers. Continue reading NY Drivers License Good For Domestic Flights For Another Year

Can You Eat Food From Every Country in World in NYC?

United Nations of Food

Well one man is trying to…

One of the fun parts of travel is trying out the local cuisine. If the food isn’t so great (Nicaragua comes to mind for me), you’ll be hoping to find something that reminds you of home. Give me a decent burger, slice of pizza, even McDonald’s at times!

I came across the story of Charles Biblios over the summer in an article from Gothamist and I thought his “mission” seemed pretty awesome.

Charles’s mission, according to his blog United Nations of Food is “to eat (reasonably) authentic cuisine from every country in the world (160 countries), without leaving New York City“. Continue reading Can You Eat Food From Every Country in World in NYC?

United Being Sued Due to No DIRECTV On Flight

United Airlines DIRECTV

A woman is suing United Airlines for $5 million for what seems to be a pretty crazy reason.

Cary M. David of New Jersey paid $7.99 to use DIRECTV during a four-hour flight to Puerto Rico.  However, it turns out that she only got to use the service for 10 minutes because it only works when flying over the continental U.S. Continue reading United Being Sued Due to No DIRECTV On Flight

NYC L Train Shutdown, UberPool To The Rescue

uberpool

When it comes to fun promotions and capitalizing or helping out with bad situations, Uber seems to know how to make it work for them.

Uber first caught my eye due to wacky promos like delivering kittens to snuggle for 15 minutes, christmas trees on demand and air conditioners in NYC.

They’ve also received a lot of attention due to their surge pricing model. While many are against this technique, loyal riders like it since it creates more opportunities to get a car during busier times…

With the New York City MTA shutting down L train service for the next five weekends, Uber is trying to help out a bit. Continue reading NYC L Train Shutdown, UberPool To The Rescue

Selfie Stick To Be Banned From Museums

Museum of Modern Art

With the selfie stick being one of the most popular holiday gifts last year, it would probably be safe to assume that it makes for a popular travel item too.

I’ll say it right away, no I do not own a selfie stick nor do plan to purchase one. However, I do see where they could come in handy. As an example, I’d probably use it to take photos over a crowd if I had one. Continue reading Selfie Stick To Be Banned From Museums

Woman Passes Out, Taken On $293 Uber Ride

Uber complaints

It seems to me like just about every Uber makes the news, it’s with a negative twist…

Many of us have heard about the Uber horror stories like $94 for a 2 Mile Ride and the twenty-minute ride which cost $362. Well here is another awful Uber story where another passenger may have been taken for a ride which really cost her… Continue reading Woman Passes Out, Taken On $293 Uber Ride

Gothamist shared a photo which NASA had posted as its image of the day, featuring a look at Manhattan.

The photo reveals some interesting details about the “heat island effect” along with the photo.

Since I’m from New York City (Brooklyn!), I was interested in finding out more about the photo.

According to NASA, The narrow island of Manhattan, located between the Hudson River and the East River, is a familiar feature to crews on the International Space Station.
