Things to do in Oklahoma

It’s been a week since I last wrote about our Trip to OklahomaI wanted to finish the final installment so here is a post about some of the things we did during our final day in Tulsa.

After spending some time at Oktoberfest during the first two days of our trip we figured our last day would best be spent checking out the sites around Tulsa. This included checking out a couple of more Route 66 sites, meeting up with a local twitter travel friend, eating some tasty BBQ and checking out a couple of museums. Visiting Creepy Eastern State Penitentiary

eastern state penitentiary halloweenWith Halloween just a day away I thought it would be fun to post some photos of one of the creepiest places that I’ve visited in the United States.

I first heard about Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA on a travel TV show years back and always wanted to visit. Kim and I stopped by a few years ago and were amazed by what we saw. Continue reading Visiting Creepy Eastern State Penitentiary

At the end of the summer, Kim, Lucas and I flew home from our trip back to the Balkans in business class on Finnair.

We  typically fly in economy class so we can stretch our miles and go on more trips. However, award space home from Sofia was only available in biz so we decided to take what we could get to make the trip a reality. Continue reading The Worst Biz Class Amenity Kit Ever

Skulls & Bones at the Catacombs in Lima

There are loads of things that interest me when it comes to travel. One of my favorite places to visit happen to be crypts, catacombs and other morbid/ ghoulish sites.

During a trip to Peru which was around 4-5 years B.L. (Before Lucas), we had a long layover in Lima during our journey back home to New York. We had 6-7 hours to get out and explore a city which we had spent the first night of our trip at, but had no time to explore besides grabbing dinner right by our hotel. Oktoberfest, Route 66 & Pizza: Oklahoma Trip: Day 2

Change of Heart, Heading to Oktoberfest Tomorrow!

A couple of days back I wrote about Day 1 of our recent trip to Oklahoma. The main purpose of our visit was to experience Oktoberfest in America at Tulsa’s take on the event.

This trip was very economical to book with the help of miles, points and cash. If it wasn’t for miles and points we’d probably not take these kind of excursions. Find out about all of my trip booking details here.

Day 2 continued where we left off, heading back to Oktoberfest. We then decided to visit a couple of fun Route 66 attractions before heading to what I read was the state’s best pizza. Continue reading Oktoberfest, Route 66 & Pizza: Oklahoma Trip: Day 2

Oktoberfest, Ice Cream & Racing: Oklahoma Trip: Day 1

Change of Heart, Heading to Oktoberfest Tomorrow!

Last week I wrote about having a change of heart and our decision to head to Oktoberfest.

With the big festival ending in Munich the week before, we decided to head to an American version in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Some of you might wonder- why Oklahoma? My typical answer when asked why I am going to a place is, why not? (With a variety of travel goals and one being to visit every state in America, this would get one more checked off the list!) Continue reading Oktoberfest, Ice Cream & Racing: Oklahoma Trip: Day 1

Change of Heart, Heading to Oktoberfest Tomorrow!

No, not that Oktoberfest in Munich- it ended a little over a week back.

Over the past month or so I’ve written some posts about our time at Oktoberfest. This made me really feel Oktoberfest-sick (kinda like homesick but for the festival).

With Kim and I having some time off from work I started to look into various options. We were only considering domestic trips. I also came up with two criterion for picking a place. Continue reading Change of Heart, Heading to Oktoberfest Tomorrow!

Jumping At Munich’s Oktoberfest

Last year I finally got to experience Oktoberfest, an event that I’ve been wanting to attend for quite some time. (Check out my trip planning post here.)

We had an amazing time, spending around 4 days visiting and drinking in the massive beer tents. Our visit to Oktoberfest was a very interesting one, especially since we experienced it with Lucas (he was around 1.5 at the time).  Continue reading Jumping At Munich’s Oktoberfest

Step Back in Time: TWA Flight Center, JFK Airport

TWA Flight Center

Last year I finally had the opportunity to visit the TWA Flight Center during Open House NY. I had hoped to visit during previous years but it just never seemed to work out.

With Open House NY starting tomorrow (Oct 11-12),  I thought a photo-tour from last year’s visit would be appropriate. (If you’d like to visit the TWA Flight Center, it will be open to the public on October 11 from 11AM-3:30PM. Continue reading Step Back in Time: TWA Flight Center, JFK Airport

Border Jumping: Kansas & Missouri

$348.65 + 71,906 Points= Trip For 3: Air, Hotel & Car Rental

For one reason or another I’ve long enjoyed stopping for a photo at border crossings, especially those with some sort of sign or marker.

The first time I could think of doing this was when we walked across the border from South Africa to Namibia. I also had some fun jumping by the border of Kosovo and Albania during our trip last summer to the Balkans.

During our most recent trip to the Mid-West, we found a border marker at an unlikely place, on the middle of a bridge! Continue reading Border Jumping: Kansas & Missouri
