40,154 Southwest points + $310.60= Trip for 4 to Portland, Oregon

Portland Oregon

Kim, Lucas, Theo & I recently got back from a quick trip to Portland, Oregon.

While we only had a few days there, it was still a really fun visit and the first time we all stepped foot in the state of Oregon. The trip was also Theo’s first time flying on a plane! (Lots of firsts!)

Here are the details that went into planning our trip to Portland, Oregon. Continue reading 40,154 Southwest points + $310.60= Trip for 4 to Portland, Oregon

Flashback: Should You Take Your Toddler to Oktoberfest

a man drinking beer from a glassWith Munich’s Oktoberfest 2016 heading into its final weekend, I thought it would be fitting to re-share a post about our experience at the festival back in 2013.

Most people think of Oktoberfest as a festival for adults. However, the event also has appeal to kids. There are rides, great food to chow down on and when you head into the tents, you’re bound to hear some fun music.

Check out my post “Should You Take Your Toddler to Oktoberfest” and let me know- would you take your toddler to Munich to celebrate or prefer to leave the little ones home? Continue reading Flashback: Should You Take Your Toddler to Oktoberfest

A Visit to the Legendary Santarpio’s Pizza in East Boston

a building with a billboard on top of it

During a recent trip I spent 7 hours in Boston. The visit was so short because I was really flying there to earn a bonus of 75,000 JetBlue points. (They were probably the easiest 75,000+ JetBlue points I ever earned.)

Once I left the airport, the first stop during my quick visit was to the legendary Santarpios Pizza located in East Boston. (Find out about the free shuttle to Santarpio’s that we took from Boston Logan Airport.) Continue reading A Visit to the Legendary Santarpio’s Pizza in East Boston

Impressive Airport Pizza by Wolfgang Puck at CUN

Wolfgang Puck

In July 2016 Lucas and I headed to Cancun, Mexico for our first summer trip.

It was a destination I wouldn’t have selected, however you can’t be overly picky when you win a trip online!

On our way home, Lucas and I were hungry. While wandering around the airport, I was really impressed by how new the terminal was. There were also a variety of dining options but one stood out that I had to try.

The Marketplace By Wolfgang Puck offers a variety of options but when I saw them making pizzas to order, I had to try one out. Continue reading Impressive Airport Pizza by Wolfgang Puck at CUN

Trip Report: 7 Hours in Boston

On Wednesday, August 24 I headed to Boston with my brother to fulfill the terms of a promotion to earn 75,000 JetBlue Points.

The cost for the flight was a very reasonable $96.20 to fly roundtrip from Newark Airport. When booking the flight, there was an important decision to make- do we fly directly back and forth or spend some time in the area?

If hotels were cheaper, we may have just spent a night there but we decided to spend 7 hours in Boston. Continue reading Trip Report: 7 Hours in Boston

Trying Out the Most Unique Idaho Potato in Boise

During my trip to Boise, Idaho with Lucas earlier this summer, we had a fun time checking out various sites around the city.

We also tried some of Boise’s culinary highlights. One of the fun things we did was start off our trip by trying to conquer Big Jud’s 1lb Burger. (Find out how we did in my post.)

To finish our visit, we decided to head over to the Westside Drive-In to try what might just be the most unique Idaho potato! Continue reading Trying Out the Most Unique Idaho Potato in Boise

Historic Burger Sliders at White Mana in Jersey City

I first came across the historic White Mana Diner, located in Jersey City, NJ when it made an appearance of the Food Network’s show Food Feuds.

White Mana’s home is a small, almost round building which was first used at the 1939 NY World’s Fair before it was moved to its present location in Jersey City. According to the sign outside, it’s been open in NJ since 1946. Continue reading Historic Burger Sliders at White Mana in Jersey City

NOT Getting Max Value from Hotel Free Night, Not Always A Bad Thing

free nightLucas and I recently returned from our third trip in 3 weeks. This time, we visited Indianapolis, Indiana.

Like with some of our other trips, the question came up- why are you going to Indianapolis? My quick response as usual is something like- why not? I haven’t been there before…

While planning the trip I wanted to keep the costs as low as possible. I also had a Club Carlson Free Night certificate expiring at the end of August.  Continue reading NOT Getting Max Value from Hotel Free Night, Not Always A Bad Thing

The Workingman’s Friend, An Odd But Tasty Burger Experience

Workingman's FriendOver the summer Lucas and I went away three weeks in a row, coming home each week on Friday to visit Kim before going away again. This was an interesting summer adventure which also ended up being a lot of fun.

Our third trip was to Indianapolis, Indiana.

When we arrived after the short flight, we were hungry for lunch. There was one place that I had to go. Since Lucas & I were in the mood for a burger, we headed to a place I’ve wanted to visit for quite some time. We headed from the airport straight over to The Workingman’s Friend. Continue reading The Workingman’s Friend, An Odd But Tasty Burger Experience

This summer was one of the odder ones for travel for the Michael W Travels family.

With Kim grounded from flying until Baby W Travels arrives, Lucas and I set off on three little adventures. The way it worked was that for three weeks in a row, we flew on a Monday morning and got back home early Friday evening.

We basically came home each week to visit Kim for the weekend!

Our first trip was to Cancun, Mexico– a destination I wouldn’t have picked but for the price, how could I turn the trip down! For our second trip, we headed to Boise, Idaho.

Our third and final summer escape was to Indianapolis, Indiana. Continue reading 25,967 Points + Club Carlson Free Night + $315.98= Trip for 2 to Indianapolis
