AAA’s Popular Destinations, Guidebooks, AAdvantage eShopping Offer, Flight Diverted By Credit Cards, NY Licenses for Domestic Flights & More- The Rehash!

Rehash

There hasn’t been much doing for us over the past week when it comes to miles & points. However, we did have a fun weekend playing tourist in NYC thanks to Open House New York.

We spent most of the day on Saturday checking out some interesting sites around Queens and then visited a fun museum in Brooklyn on Sunday.

Currently I dont have any flights booked for any future trips. Lucas keeps on asking where our next trip is! I really need to change this and start getting some things planned!  Continue reading AAA’s Popular Destinations, Guidebooks, AAdvantage eShopping Offer, Flight Diverted By Credit Cards, NY Licenses for Domestic Flights & More- The Rehash!

Travel Guidebooks- Useful or Useless?

GuidebooksDo you still bring guidebooks on trips with you?

For just about all of our international trips, Kim and I find a guidebook to be a necessary travel item.

Here is how I see it. Trips are an investment, whether it be paid for with our hard-earned money or miles & points. Being (somewhat) prepared and having ideas of what you’d like to see and do makes a lot of sense, especially if you’re away for a limited amount of time. You are paying all this money and or miles & points, why wouldn’t you spend an additional $20 or so to maximize what you see, do and eat… Continue reading Travel Guidebooks- Useful or Useless?

Florida Everglades Airboat Rides Ending

Florida Everglades

Almost two years back, Kim, Lucas and I took an airboat tour in the Florida Everglades while visiting my parents during Thanksgiving Weekend.

Kim and I enjoyed the tour but it definitely wasn’t Lucas’ favorite thing to do. I’d guess it was mainly due to the loud noise caused by the airboats.

According to Frommer’s, “airboats have been a staple of touring the Florida Everglades. New rules, though, are about the silence them once and for all“. Continue reading Florida Everglades Airboat Rides Ending

AAA’s Most Popular Destinations for International Travel 2016

AAA Travel

Each year I look forward to seeing which destinations make the New York Times list for Places To Go. (You can read a post about the 2015 NY Times list here.)

There are also quite a few other list related to places to go from Fodor’s, Frommer’s, Lonely Planet as well as many other travel sites and publications.

I recently came across a list of most popular international destinations for 2016 from AAA Travel.  Continue reading AAA’s Most Popular Destinations for International Travel 2016

Oktoberfest Attendance Falls, Should You Attend?

Munich Oktoberfest

The biggest beer celebration in the world, Munich’s Oktoberfest recently came to an end. I wasn’t so surprised to read an article from Yahoo related to the event. Yahoo wrote that Oktoberfest attendance falls amid German border controls.

According to the article, 400,000 less visitors came to the event than during the previous year. This accounted for 400,000 less steins of beer being sold. Wow, talk about a big decrease. I wonder how this affects the economy of the city and jobs related to the event?

When Kim, Lucas and I went to Oktoberfest in 2013, we had an amazing time and would love to go again. Continue reading Oktoberfest Attendance Falls, Should You Attend?

Southwest Now Offering Hamster-Sitting Service

Southwest AirlinesI haven’t flown Southwest Airlines in close to 10 months but one of the main reasons I love the airline is due to their friendly customer service as well as free checked bags policy.

Good customer service goes a long way in leaving a good impression. They even used to give out a really cool perk to kids. (I’m not sure if they still do these days.)

I came across a tweet from the CEO and President of Southwest, Gary Kelly yesterday which made me laugh… Continue reading Southwest Now Offering Hamster-Sitting Service

World’s Most Expensive Hotel Room, $75,000 Per Night

Worlds Most Expensive Hotel

Imagine a five bedroom suite in Manhattan taking up two whole floors of a building coming to a staggering 12,000 square feet.

No this isn’t some over-sized penthouse that we might see featured on Bravo’s Billion Million Dollar Listing. It’s just the most expensive hotel room in the world. Continue reading World’s Most Expensive Hotel Room, $75,000 Per Night

Forgot Your ID? You Can Still Fly

still fly

In the middle of September I wrote about how NY driver’s licenses + 3 other states won’t be valid for domestic flights in the future. Who knows if this will really happen…

This led me to look into what else is considered a valid form of ID. We could always bring a passport along but I prefer to leave mine at home unless I’m leaving the country.

Since I live in New York, I’d probably use my Global Entry ID card or get a passport card eventually.

While reading into valid forms of identification, something really interesting caught my eye. Continue reading Forgot Your ID? You Can Still Fly

Can This Solve The Middle Seat Problem?

Middle Seat

Coach seats have been getting tighter and tighter over the years making it increasingly more uncomfortable during flights.

The wide majority of our flights are in coach and I have to say that the loss of space hasn’t been nearly as big of a deal as those awful slimline seats many planes now use.

Considering that we usually fly as a family of three (and one of us is a toddler), we have a little bit of extra room for our things, although it really isn’t much! The one thing that we don’t worry much about at the moment, is who sits in the middle seat. Currently, Lucas takes the window, I take the aisle and Kim gets to sit between two very good-looking guys when sitting in the middle seat! See, the middle seat does have its advantages in some instances! 🙂 Continue reading Can This Solve The Middle Seat Problem?

Can a sports stadium be dangerous to pilots trying to land their planes?

This might just be the case for planes trying to land at San Jose Mineta Airport thanks to the new San Francisco 49ers stadium- Levi’s Stadium (now in use for its second season).

What might cause a sports stadium to interfere with a plane? Continue reading San Francisco 49ers Stadium, A Danger To Pilots?
