Shake Shack and Other Impressive Food Options Coming to Deltas Terminal 4

Yesterday I mentioned a post that I wrote for Rene over at Delta Points. For those of you that didn’t get a chance to read it there, here it is.

Over the last 2+ years Delta has been renovating and expanding JFK Airport’s Terminal 4. The expansion has a budget of $1.2 billion and will replace Terminal 3 for Delta’s international flights out of the airport.

Many improvements and upgrades are on the way including:

  • Two rows of check- in counters
  • A new, automated baggage handling system
  • Security check points being consolidated into one area which allows for all of the retail and food options to be behind security
  • An additional 9 international gates, giving Delta a total of 16 at JFK
  • Larger waiting areas
  • Additional, new and powered seating for charging your electronic devices
  • The largest Sky Club Delta has to offer

The Sky Club will have 24,000 square feet of space and include the first ever Delta Sky Deck, a 2,000 square foot outdoor terrace. The Sky Deck will offer guests amazing views of Manhattan which I’d definitely love to get a chance to see. The Sky Deck sounds like a great addition for an airport lounge.

A Visit to the Barclays Center: Home of the Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn Nets

I was really excited when it was announced a few years back that the NBA’s New Jersey Nets would be moving to Brooklyn. A brand new arena, the Barclay’s Center was built in Downtown Brooklyn as the new home for the Nets.

The 2012- 2013 season is the first for the Nets in Brooklyn. The Nets are the first major professional sports team to play in the borough since the Dodgers left for L.A. in 1957. (The Cyclones have been playing minor league baseball in Brooklyn since 2001.)

I always wondered what it would be like to have a team to go watch and cheer for close to home. Although I am not much of a basketball fan anymore, I had to make it to a Nets game in their inaugural season in Brooklyn.

Shacktoberfest, An Alternative to Oktoberfest

a person holding a glass of beer

I do not have a bucket list- I actually hate the term and idea of them. However, there are some places, events and experiences that I’d love to do.

One of the top events I’d love to attend is Oktoberfest. I’ve been to Munich, got to experience the local beer scene and really enjoyed the city. I rarely return to a city or country I’ve already visited but for Oktoberfest I’d go back to Munich in a heartbeat.

This year I had a break from work coinciding with Oktoberfest. I found out about it pretty much last minute. I considered trying to get to Germany for Oktoberfest but there were a couple of problems with this plan- Kim was not off from work and flights were very expensive or not available with miles. After weighing my options, I gave up on the idea of going this year and figured that I would eventually get there.

Oktoberfest is a Munich event celebrated all around the world. There were various events going on in the New York area but they didn’t seem to fit our schedule. Then I read about a fun, little event at one of my favorite burger places- Shake Shack.

 .
My favorite sport has always been baseball. Through the good and mostly bad, I’ve always stayed loyal to my favorite team, the New York Mets. Over the last few years (20+?), there hasn’t been much to cheer about but at least when I was a little kid the Mets were the talk of the town. Damn ,1986 was such a long time ago! Shake Shack Grand Opening-Brooklyn

a group of people walking outside a building

Burgers are one of my favorite foods and when I heard that Shake Shack was coming to Brooklyn, I was really psyched.

It just so happened that the grand opening was going to be on my birthday (12/20) so I figured I would go for lunch!

I e-mailed the restaurant and found out that Shake Shack would be opening around 11AM and some VIPs would be present for a ceremony. I arrived at 10:45 expecting a huge line but was pleasanly surprised to see only 2 people ahead of me.
