A Visit To The Sólheimasandur DC 3 Plane Wreck In Iceland With Kids

a man standing on a plane wreckAt the end of June 2019, the Michael W Travels went on a trip to Iceland, a country that I’ve wanted to visit for years.

While I hoped to see the Northern Lights, that wasn’t an option during the summer. However, a unique site that I’ve always wanted to visit was on our list of things to do.

Every since I read about the famous DC 3 plane wreck located on Sólheimasandur Beach, Continue reading A Visit To The Sólheimasandur DC 3 Plane Wreck In Iceland With Kids

icelandWhile dining at The Soup Company in Vik, Iceland, it was time for a potty break. I headed to the bathroom with my 7 year-old son Lucas and came across a bizarre sign.

I’ve seen other odd bathroom- related signs over the years but this one was very different. Continue reading Ridiculous Street Signs #26: For Drying Hands Only- Vik, Iceland

A Tasty Souvenir From Our Trip To Iceland

icelandThe Michael W Travels family started off the summer break with a trip to Iceland.

During our trip, we focused on visiting areas in the south. We had a great time during our trip around this pricey island nation.

Food costs in Iceland can potentially break the budget but there are some ways to save. Daily supermarket visits kept the price of daily  breakfast, lunch and snacks to $25-$30 (per day for a family of 4). Continue reading A Tasty Souvenir From Our Trip To Iceland

Anthony Bourdain Recommended: Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur- Iceland

anthony bourdainWhen traveling to new places, we love trying out some of the local food. During our recent trip to Iceland, this meant trying out hot dogs which are know there as pylsur.

During our 8 days in Iceland, we tried out hot dogs at various different stands and even at gas stations. In my opinion, they’re all pretty much the same. (From what I noticed, all places serve the same brand of hot dog from the brand SS, so how different could they really be!)

However, there is one tiny stand in Reykjavik which we had to try. Continue reading Anthony Bourdain Recommended: Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur- Iceland

On the evening that school ended (in NYC), the Michael W Travels family headed off to Iceland. This would be the first trip to the island nation for all of us.

Kim and I have wanted to visit Iceland for years but put it off for one reason or another. When I saw what I felt was a great deal on a flight there, I immediately booked it.

With 8 days/7 nights for our trip, we needed to decide whether or not it made sense to drive the full ring road. Rather than rush around, we decided to focus on sites around the south. Continue reading 80K Barclay Arrival Miles + $1,825.88= Trip for 4 to Iceland

In Iceland Forget The Petting Zoo, Stop & Mingle With Icelandic Horses

icelandic horseThe Michael W Travels family started off summer 2019 with a trip to Iceland. During our visit, rather than rush around the whole ring road, we focused on covering sites in the south.

While away, we saw many unique sites, primarily natural and some man-made.

Kim and I came across flyer for a petting zoo and  thought it might be a good idea to stop by for the kids. The thing is, it didn’t really sound overly exciting when reading more about it online. Continue reading In Iceland Forget The Petting Zoo, Stop & Mingle With Icelandic Horses

I Got The Dreaded SSSS On My Boarding Pass Again, It Really Wasn’t Bad!

SSSSBack in February, we were flying home from Barcelona to NYC with a stop in London. When I got my boarding pass for the London-NYC flight I had the four letters you never wanted to see.

When you get SSSS on your boarding pass, you’re in for an additional security check which can be quite annoying. To my surprise, it wasn’t that bad.

Now, just two trips later, I got those dreaded letters again! Continue reading I Got The Dreaded SSSS On My Boarding Pass Again, It Really Wasn’t Bad!
