5.5 Hours In Monaco, One Of The Smallest Countries In The World

monacoThe Michael W Travels family visited France during winter break of 2018.

We booked our flights to Paris due to receiving $2,700 for a bump on Delta Air Lines on the way home from the previous year’s winter break trip.

Kim and I had each separately visited Paris almost 20 years ago. This trip would be our first time visiting together as well as a first visit for the kids. When I booked the flight to Paris, I had to squeeze in a visit to a new country and Monaco was the perfect option! Continue reading 5.5 Hours In Monaco, One Of The Smallest Countries In The World

6.5 Hours in Transnistria with Kids, A Country That Doesn’t Really Exist!

I Love Tiraspol?

Over the summer, the Michael W Travels family took a month- long trip to six former Soviet states.

During the trip, I had to visit the unrecognized state of Transnistria, a “country” which claimed its independence from Moldova back in 1990 (although no UN member states recognize the claim).

Transnistria keeps its “independence” due to financial and military support (peacekeepers) from Russia. Continue reading 6.5 Hours in Transnistria with Kids, A Country That Doesn’t Really Exist!

A Visit to the Sulphur Springs Drive In Volcano in St Lucia

sulphur springsWhen the Michael W Travels family visits Caribbean islands we typically don’t stay at fancy resorts. While my boys love playing in the pool, I can’t do that all day. I always look for things to do that will give as a sense of what the island has that makes it unique.

While researching things to do on Saint Lucia, I came across one site that sounded pretty unique, Sulphur Springs Park which is billed as the “Caribbeans only drive in volcano“. Continue reading A Visit to the Sulphur Springs Drive In Volcano in St Lucia

Takeaways from the 2019 New York Times Travel Show

New York Times Travel ShowThe 2019 New York Times Travel Show just passed. The show, a three day event, was in session from January 25-27.

Like every year, the first day was a trade- day. I’ve always wanted to attend the day time sessions but I’m not sure that it would be worth taking a day off from work for it.

This year, I decided to attend the show with Lucas for a few hours on the first regular day. Continue reading Takeaways from the 2019 New York Times Travel Show

What Did We Try At McDonald’s France?

McDonalds FranceMcDonald’s isn’t a restaurant that we frequent while at home but it’s a must when we’re visiting international destinations.

We like to visit McD’s for a variety of reasons while traveling. I love trying out the local McDonald’s menu items available. The kids LOVE McD’s due to the toys. (The food is definitely secondary.) It’s also nice to eat something (relatively) familiar while away.

During our recent winter break trip, we made stops at McDonalds France a few times. From what I recall, one time was just to grab a quick dessert. Continue reading What Did We Try At McDonald’s France?

Revisiting My Favorite Site In the City of Love, The Paris Catacombs

paris catacombsThis past winter break, the Michael W Travels family headed to Paris. While Kim and I had each (separately) been to Paris before, this would be the first visit to France for our kids.

I typically like to try to visit new countries rather than repeat. However, it had been something like 18 years since I had last visited.

Thanks to a sweet deal from a Delta Air Lines bump (from the previous winter break), we used our vouchers to book flights to Paris. Continue reading Revisiting My Favorite Site In the City of Love, The Paris Catacombs

Happy 7th B-Day World Traveler Lucas, 54 Countries Visited!

world travelerA few days back, our (not so) little boy, Lucas Miles turned 7 years-old!

It’s almost hard to believe that Lucas is already seven years old. He’s in first grade, doing very well in school. Lucas loves math and is excelling in reading and writing. Yes, homework can be cause for complaint though!

He’e also a world traveler, having already visited 54 countries! Yes, he’s visited over 50 countries before turning 7 years-old! Continue reading Happy 7th B-Day World Traveler Lucas, 54 Countries Visited!

This Will Have Your Kid Not Wanting To Leave The Museum

museumDuring our travels, we like to visit a museum or two during the course of our trips. We try to find a museum that’s geared towards kids, but many we visit aren’t.

Art museums aren’t always the most fun for kids and it can definitely be annoying to hear questions like when are we leaving or are we almost finished constantly!

The Michael W Travels family recently got back from a trip to France and Monaco. During our trip, we were surprised by how much Lucas enjoyed the Musee d’ Orsay in Paris. While in Nice, we visited the Chagall Museum. Continue reading This Will Have Your Kid Not Wanting To Leave The Museum

This Paris Restaurant Serves One Dish & It’s Awesome!

paris restaurant While in Paris, we made sure to eat a variety of French specialties. The thing is that many of them tended to lean more towards the dessert category!

After spending time visiting the Eiffel Tower, we decided to grab lunch at le “Relais de l’Entrecote”.

The restaurant is well known for serving one dish, steak frites. Continue reading This Paris Restaurant Serves One Dish & It’s Awesome!
