Uber Surge Pricing During NYC Blizzard, Maybe It’s Not So Bad?

Uber Surge Pricing

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency for New York City due to the storm which has been picking up during the day.

Along with the announcement that schools are already closed for tomorrow and drivers being advised to stay off of the streets if possible, Uber has a warning for us too. Continue reading Uber Surge Pricing During NYC Blizzard, Maybe It’s Not So Bad?

Vote For Zagat Survey, Get A Free NYC Restaurant Guide

a red book with white text

I’ve been participating in Zagat surveys for years and as a little thank you I’m sent a free copy of the Zagat New York City restaurant guide. Over the last few years I’ve rarely ever looked through the guides (blame this on the iPhone!) but I still continue to do the reviews.

With the increased use of smartphones and food review sites & apps, I’m not sure how important it is for anyone to get a physical copy of the Zagat guide anymore.

Some favorite sites/ apps I use are:

For those of you still interested in getting a copy of the 2014 NYC Restaurant guide, you can participate in the Zagat survey and receive a free copy of the 2014 guide as a thank you.

Every year I receive an e-mail from Zagat regarding the restaurant survey being open for reviews. I participate from the direct link and then receive the guide a few months later. I haven’t received a link as of yet from Zagat but I did receive an e-mail from the Village Voice with a link to participate in the survey.

This year it seems like things have changed. In order to participate, you need to have a Google + account. Any reviews that you write for the survey will then appear in Google + Local attached to your Google + profile.

I have a Google + account which I never use. I really don’t get the point of the service. If I want to stay in touch, Facebook just seems like an easier site to use.

Either way, if you’re interested in getting a free copy of the 2014 Zagat New York Restaurant Guide, Click HERE to get started on filling out the survey.

If you have any great New York City restaurant recommendations, please be kind and share!

Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum- Kids Week 2013

a poster for a kids event

A couple of weeks back I received an e-mail from a friend about an event coming up at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.

I’ve been wanting to visit the Intrepid for a while now, especially to see the Space Shuttle Enterprise so the event sounded like a great reason to visit. (Too bad the Space Shuttle Pavilion is currently closed due to damage from Hurricane Sandy. It is scheduled to reopen in the spring.)

Kids Week 2013 is coming to the Intrepid from February 16- 24.
Lucas might be a bit young for most of the special events taking place for Kids Week but Kim and I are still going to try to take him. This past weekend, Lucas visited his first children’s museum and had a blast. I feel that it’s never too soon to expose little ones to new activities & experiences. It’s also great for him to be around other kids.

According to the Intrepid website:

Intrepid Museum’s Kids Week offers fun-filled entertainment the whole family will enjoy. Participate in hands-on activities from our partners, including performances, games, cool demonstrations and more. Kids Week is action packed and filled with excitement!

There is a schedule of activities for each day of Kids Week online. If you are thinking of going make sure to check it out and pick a day where the activities seem best for you and your kiddies. If Kim and I decide to go, it would most likely be on a Saturday or Sunday.

My favorite days are actually during the first weekend. The theme for February 16-17 is called “Under the Big Top”. Some of these events sound like they would be fun for Lucas to see.

Lucas’ Seven Month Old Travel Recap & Our Upcoming Plans

a sign on a window

While walking around SoHo in New York City we came across this awesome sign. It was in the window of Giggle, a baby store.

I thought it would make for a good photo with Lucas. It pretty much sums up our thoughts for traveling with a baby. Lucas has not held us back, he has been a great travel partner!

When Kim got pregnant many people commented on how things would slow down for us in terms of travel. I never listened to these remarks and always said how we plan to still go away multiple times each year. The question would then be- with the baby??? My answer was always a firm yes. I have always seen families traveling with infants so why couldn’t we?

The other day I ran into a neighbor that I had not seen in a few months. She asked how Lucas was and then made a comment about us not traveling. I told her how great Lucas was doing and then went on to tell her about our trips we had taken. I also mentioned our upcoming trip to Southeast Asia. After each trip that I spoke about she asked “with the baby”, was he coming along? When I told her yes she was surprised and impressed that we were still getting to travel.

On our two trips (flying) to date with Lucas we’ve definitely had to slow down a little. There are stops needed for feeding and changing but otherwise Lucas has been a great travel partner.
I don’t feel like we had to pass up many experiences or missed out on much so far.

Lucas is having a great first year of travel. He might not remember the places he went and things he saw but we have lots of pictures to show him when he is older. It’s also been an amazing experience for Kim and I!
Here are Lucas’ trips and the age that he took them:
  1. Barbados- 3 months old
  2. South Dakota- 6 months old

Tomorrow we leave for Southeast Asia and Lucas just turned 7 months old this past Saturday. We’ll be flying in business class thanks to our mileage collecting! (This should be a great experience in itself!)

We will be visiting:

  • Singapore
  • Bali, Indonesia
  • Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Hopefully we’ll get in another little adventure before his first birthday!

Stay tuned…
