Update On Anthony Bourdain’s New York Food Hall

Anthony Bourdain's NYC Food Hall To Open in 2017

Back in January I wrote how the Anthony Bourdain New York food hall would be opening in 2015. A few months later the location of the food hall was revealed. Then news came out that Bourdain’s food hall wouldn’t be opening until 2017.

The food hall will be an ambitious project, featuring vendors both local and from around the world. With Kim and I being fans of food halls and markets, we look forward to visiting Bourdain’s when it opens in a couple of years.

News about the project has been relatively quiet recently. Here are some updates about what’s going on with the Anthony Bourdain New York Food Hall. Continue reading Update On Anthony Bourdain’s New York Food Hall

Food Review: Poutine at McDonald’s Canada

McDonalds Canada

Some of you may know that I love to visit McDonald’s when traveling to new places. I pretty much never dine at McD’s at home though.

The purpose of stopping in is to see if there are any local menu items worthy of a try. McDonald’s has also become something of a treat for Lucas. He knows that it isn’t healthy and we don’t go at home but while traveling he gets to go for a toy and some chicken nuggets.

During our recent trip to Toronto, I had to stop in at a McDonalds Canada location to see if any local menu items were available. Continue reading Food Review: Poutine at McDonald’s Canada

When flying in premium airline cabins you can expect higher quality food with some airlines even having menus created by famous chefs.

Now Air China is getting in on this trend.

Last week Air China announced a new partnership with Iron Chef and Top Chef Masters contestant Anita Lo. Chef Lo is an award-winning chef and was the first female asked to collaborate on a state dinner at the White House. Pretty impressive. Continue reading Top Chef Anita Lo Partners with Air China

Have A Thanksgiving Feast Around the World

Thanksgiving Feast

Thanksgiving is fast approaching. And while I wouldn’t consider myself a big fan of traditional Thanksgiving foods (here’s looking at you turkey!), it’s still a good excuse for family to get together.

The holiday is “celebrated in Canada and the United States as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year“, according to Wikipedia.

A few years back we had a not so typical Thanksgiving and a couple of years back we took a quick trip over the holiday.

Did you know that you could have a Thanksgiving feast at other destinations around the world? Continue reading Have A Thanksgiving Feast Around the World

Insects, That’s What For Dinner at London Restaurant

London restaurant
From our 2009 trip to SE Asia (Vietnam)

When Andrew Zimmern’s Travel Channel show Bizarre Foods came out, it brought all of the strange foods that people eat around the world into our living rooms. While these foods do seem strange for Westerners, they most likely aren’t seen that way in the places that they are consumed.

The first time that I can recall seeing bugs for sale as a food had to be during our trip to Thailand. I also remember seeing trays of bugs at a supermarket in Vietnam years back and I had to take a photo. My guess is that the locals and shopkeepers probably found it just as odd that I was taking the photos!  Continue reading Insects, That’s What For Dinner at London Restaurant

Can You Eat Food From Every Country in World in NYC?

United Nations of Food

Well one man is trying to…

One of the fun parts of travel is trying out the local cuisine. If the food isn’t so great (Nicaragua comes to mind for me), you’ll be hoping to find something that reminds you of home. Give me a decent burger, slice of pizza, even McDonald’s at times!

I came across the story of Charles Biblios over the summer in an article from Gothamist and I thought his “mission” seemed pretty awesome.

Charles’s mission, according to his blog United Nations of Food is “to eat (reasonably) authentic cuisine from every country in the world (160 countries), without leaving New York City“. Continue reading Can You Eat Food From Every Country in World in NYC?

The Daily Meal’s 101 Best Pizzas in America 2015

Margot's Pizza: An Awesome Pizzeria Within A Pizzeria, Bklyn, NY
The Love Supreme- Margot’s

Pizza is one of the most easily identifiable and most liked foods around. Who doesn’t enjoy a good slice of pizza? Some might even say that it’s hard to find bad pizza. (We did during our trip to Grenada!)

Although pizza typically includes three main ingredients- cheese, sauce and crust, there are so many varieties and styles of pizza.

But is there a best pizza? Continue reading The Daily Meal’s 101 Best Pizzas in America 2015

In early 2015 I wrote about chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain’s New York City food hall opening this year. In the middle of the year it was announced that the Bourdain Market would be located at Pier 57 and Hudson River Park.

Kim and I happen to love food halls and have been looking forward to Bourdain’s offering, a take on an Asian hawker market. However, now it looks like we’ll all have to wait a bit longer for it to open. Continue reading Anthony Bourdain’s NYC Food Hall To Open in 2017

A McDonald’s Copycat in Bahrain & It’s Good

Jasmis Bahrain

During our trip to the Mid East Gulf States, Kim, Lucas and I visited four countries.

After a quick stop in Abu Dhabi, UAE, we headed off to Bahrain. We had an amazing time in there thanks to Papa John’s, where we met our new friend Fadhel who was nice enough to show us around.

During our day with Fadhel I had commented about how we visit McDonald’s in new countries to see what kind of local items might show up on the menu.

Soon after, he pointed out another fast food burger shop which was something like Bahrain’s version of McDonald’s. Continue reading A McDonald’s Copycat in Bahrain & It’s Good
