Are any of you still thinking about what was lost with the Club Carlson second night free benefit going away last week? I am!

While I made a bunch of bookings, there seemed to be some that got away… I was hoping to spend at least a couple of night at the Radisson Blu 1919 in Reykjavik and also check out the Radisson Aruba Resort (among others).

After spending over 400,000 Gold Points I still have quite a bit left. I’m sure they’ll get value somewhere down the line, just not as much as I would’ve hoped for. My biggest priority this week in terms of travel (and odds are for many of you too) was to use as many Club Carlson Gold Points as possible for future stays. Since rooms can usually be canceled I wanted to book lots of hotel stays before the second night free benefit for credit card holders goes away tonight, May 31.

I wrote how we redeemed 304,000 points as of a few days back. Since then I’ve used another 176,000 points on three additional stays. This still leaves me with a lot of Gold Points. I wish there was a way that I could’ve figured out even more dates to book!

I hope that all of you are having a nice, long Memorial Day Weekend. We decided to stay home this year since we had such a busy March and April when it comes to travel.

We’re just about done booking all of the hotels for our August summer trip. We’re doing things in the opposite order since we haven’t booked more than the flights for our trip at the end of June!

Just a reminder for Club Carlson credit card holders- the last day to book stays with the second night free benefit is May 31.

Kim and I have been busy finishing off planning our late summer trip to Abu Dhabi and beyond.

We booked all of our flights around the region using British Airways Avios. For our hotels, my plan was to use as many Club Carlson Gold Points as possible due to the upcoming (and fast approaching) loss of the credit card’s 2nd night free benefit. However, I’m also planning to use my $500 Expedia voucher that I won in a Twitter chat and the IHG Free Nights that I earned from the Into the Nights promo during this trip.

Overall it’s been a relatively quiet week around here in the world of travel, miles & points.

I didn’t get much done in terms of planning a couple of upcoming trips. However, I did pick up 15,000 Club Carlson points by calling in to customer service for my personal and business credit cards to complain about the loss of the 2nd night free benefit. This certainly won’t make up for the second night free perk going away but I’ll take it. Now I have to get Kim to call in for her card. I just got back from Atlanta where I had a chance to attend the Freddie Awards for my first time. The event was held at the amazing Delta Flight Museum.

During the visit I also got to pull a Delta jet for charity on a team filled with many other BoardingArea bloggers. I also tried one of America’s 21 must-eat burgers and visited a bunch of sites around the Atlanta area, making this into a mini-trip. Another week seems to have flown by and I’ll be heading to Atlanta in a few days to attend the Freddie Aways and a couple of other related events.

I was finally able to pick a destination (and find a flight) to go to at the end of the school year. We’ll be heading to Central America. This will be Lucas’ first time to this part of the world. We’re back for not even a week from our trip to Myanmar (Burma) and I’m already itching to go away again.

The next trip on my schedule is less than two weeks away and it’s a short one. I’ll be heading to Atlanta with my brother to attend The Freddie Awards ceremony at the Awesome Delta Flight Museum.

Otherwise, I’m looking to book a flight for a trip at the end of June and also need to figure things out for our trip in August to Abu Dhabi before the Club Carlson credit card second night free offer goes away. Later tonight we’ll be heading home from our trip to Myanmar.

It’s been a great trip and I think we made an excellent choice in choosing where to go during our Spring break! I hope that those of you on break from work had some enjoyable time off too.

This has been an amazing week of travel so far for Kim, Lucas and I.

We headed out on a long journey (3 flights) to get us to Myanmar (Burma), a destination I’ve long wanted to visit. We’re done with our first city, which is probably the least exciting of the four that we’ll visit and I’m definitely hooked.

With internet service pretty spotty, my plan has been to get a post out at least once per day. So far I’ve met that goal by planning ahead and scheduling some posts in advance…. It’s tough work being a travel blogger at times but something that I just love doing!
