Reconsideration Line Success: Chase United Credit Card

Chase United Credit Card

The offer kept coming and I was enticed to apply for a new card from Chase but I resisted until a month back.

For quite some time I’d been receiving a mailer (or e-mail) to apply for the Chase United Credit Card. I’ve had the card in the past but I felt that it was better to wait.

Then I got the bug. With all kinds of chatter about new rules related to getting approved for Chase cards, I felt I might as well apply for the United card through one of these targeted offers. Continue reading Reconsideration Line Success: Chase United Credit Card

Chase Ink Plus, A Quick & Easy Retention Call

Chase Ink Plus

The $95 fee recently came up for one of my favorite credit cards, the Chase Ink Plus so I had a tough decision to make… Should it stay or should it go? My options were to cancel or try to keep my card.

If I closed my account, it wouldn’t really be the biggest deal since I still currently have an Ink Bold. The Bold offers the same 5X points benefits at office supply stores and cell phone & other telecom bills.

So what to do? Continue reading Chase Ink Plus, A Quick & Easy Retention Call

IHG, Thanks For Letting Me Know

IHG Rewards Club
Back in November I wrote about a crazy expensive Chase IHG Rewards Club Anniversary Free Night we weren’t booking.

With Kim’s anniversary free night expiring, this led us to book an unnecessary (and expensive) night at  the Intercontinental Times Square. I used my anniversary free night  recently at Holiday Inn Express Charleston Downtown. Continue reading IHG, Thanks For Letting Me Know

Chase Sapphire Preferred Retention Offer?

Back in 2013 I signed up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card for the second time. I received a very solid 55,000 points (50K sign-up + 5K for adding an authorized user) as a signup bonus.

A couple of weeks back the steep $125 annual membership fee showed up on my monthly statement.

This left me needing to make an important call. Continue reading Chase Sapphire Preferred Retention Offer?

Last month I wrote about a Crazy Expensive IHG Anniversary Free Night We’re Not Booking.

While we had some good ideas and plans for Kim’s free night , nothing seemed to work out to make it useful for an actual trip. We couldn’t just let the free night expire so we decided to book a room in the last place we’d expect  (a place I mentioned in the post above).

We didn’t really have time to go too far, plus we wanted to feel like we were getting a good deal for the free night. This is what led us to our selection. Continue reading Expensive IHG Anniversary Free Night We Booked

Chase British Airways Card Retention Offer

Chase British Airways Card

After paying the annual fee on my Chase British Airways Visa card for 2 years (so that I could earn the full 100,000 Avios bonus offer) the time had come to most likely close the card.

The Chase BA card comes with an annual fee of $95 and for my purposes the card isn’t worth paying for anymore.

I decided to give British Airways Visa customer service a call. Continue reading Chase British Airways Card Retention Offer

Crazy Expensive IHG Anniversary Free Night We’re Not Booking

Chase IHG Credit Card

With Kim’s IHG Chase credit card Anniversary Free Night expiring at the end of 2014, I’ve been trying to figure out how we should redeem it.

Each year one Anniversary Free Night is earned on your card’s renewal anniversary. The free night is good for one year and is a relative bargain since all you are paying is the $49 annual fee.

In the recent years we’ve used our Chase free nights in Singapore and Japan. With one night pricing in the $200+ range, this makes keeping the IHG card a great deal and a card that I don’t see myself cancelling. Continue reading Crazy Expensive IHG Anniversary Free Night We’re Not Booking

Earn 1,000 Bonus IHG Points With 1st Purchase- Targeted

A few months back I wrote about a very nice targeted offer that Kim received from the IHG Rewards Club Mastercard.

Kim had received a replacement IHG card from Chase. To entice her to start using it they sent her a bonus offer of 2,000 points after making her first purchase. This seemed like a very nice offer and easy enough to earn. I charged .25¢ to a NYC parking meter and her bonus posted to her account soon after. Free Parking + Free Mile From Chase?

a screenshot of a credit cardDisclosure: I receive a commission if you apply & get approved for the credit card mentioned in this post. Thank you for supporting Michael W Travels.

Earlier in the month I decided to dust off my Chase British Airways card and place a small amount of spend on it.

Now when I say small I really mean it. Continue reading Free Parking + Free Mile From Chase?

My Chase Ink Retention Offer

Should I Hold Onto 2 Chase Ink Cards? 3A couple of weeks back I wrote a post asking Should I Hold Onto 2 Chase Ink Cards? Since writing the post I’ve closed one of my other Chase cards. While closing my United Explorer card Chase only allowed me to move $53 from the card’s credit line.

This left me with 5 cards with Chase. I figured that I would close my Ink Bold card since the $95 annual fee came up and I was recently approved for an Ink Plus. This allowed me to still earn 5X points at office supply stores and when paying cable, internet and phone bills.

I decided to call Chase to see if there was anything they could do to help me with the annual fee. Continue reading My Chase Ink Retention Offer
