Last night Kim, Lucas and I got home from our trip to Cuba.

Although we only had to fly two somewhat short flights to get home, it was still an exhausting day of travel. (We also had close to a 6 hour break between flights.)

Our trip was definitely interesting and we had to make some minor tweaks to our plans but overall, everything went smoothly. I’ll be writing about our trip in some upcoming posts. The new year will be upon us in just a few days. I closed out the year with one last credit card application approval. I haven’t added up how many miles & points I’ve earned from sign up bonuses but I’m pretty sure that it is less than I’ve earned in quite some time.

By the time this is read, Kim, Lucas and I should already be in Cuba.

Kim, Lucas and I are less than a week away from going on our winter trip and finally got the bookings completed. Finding rooms to stay in was quite a challenge. We got to make good use of some of our Airbnb gift cards bought due to a $50 off $100 Amex Offers.

I decided to pull the trigger, last-minute and use my IHG Anniversary Free Night. I finally got around to purchasing Airbnb gift cards to trigger the Amex Offers deal of $50 off $100 on two of my cards. However, I never received an e-mail confirming that I used it. I logged into my Amex account and saw that the charges posted as something other than Airbnb.

A few days later it switched to say Airbnb. I decided to call up Amex and I was told that they put a note in and manually put in that I completed the offer. Kim, Lucas and I were supposed to be away this past weekend but an odd booking screw-up by British Airways has us going away next week but in Business Class for the same price. I think it works out better for us in the end. I’ll be writing about what happened some time this week…

After getting a verbal approval for the 100,000 point Crystal Infinite Card from City National Bank, I received an e-mail requesting even more information! This is the most ridiculous credit card application ever and who knows if I’ll even get approved.

Friday night brought a disgusting attack on the City of Light, Paris. I don’t even know what to say. Our hearts go out to the people of Paris and all involved. I finally booked a hotel for our upcoming trip to Toronto. Thanks to miles & points, the cost of our hotel stay is $0. (It did cost me a Marriott Credit Card Anniversary Certificate + some points.) I’m also making progress on booking our winter break trip which should be a great one, to a destination I’ve long wanted to visit.

I haven’t applied for any new credit cards but did finally get a verbal approval on a card with a big bonus that I applied for weeks back. Hopefully it arrives soon and I can start knocking out the spend required to earn the bonus.
