An Amazing Natural Site: The To-Sua Ocean Trench, Samoa

SamoaDuring the summer of 2017, the Michael W Travels family went on a five week trip around the Pacific.

During the trip, my family visited five island nations; Tonga, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Samoa, and Vanuatu (plus American Samoa). In addition, I went on my own to spend 9.5 hours on Christmas Island, Kiribati.

When thinking about amazing natural sites, the one that always comes to mind is our experience in Samoa. Continue reading An Amazing Natural Site: The To-Sua Ocean Trench, Samoa

This Travel Souvenir Has Been Getting A Lot Of Use Thanks To COVID-19

SouvenirAs the years go by, we tend to buy fewer and fewer souvenirs during our travels. It seems like we usually see similar junk for sale in many countries.

We typically buy the kids small souvenirs which can create great memories. (Like this one from Costa Rica.) I like to buy t-shirts from time to time and also add to my hat and mask collections when something catches my eye. A Visit To The EKASUP Cultural Village On Vanuatu

Vanuatu During the summer of 2017, the Michael W Travels family spent 5 Weeks in the Pacific.

The final destination of our trip was the island nation, Vanuatu. While driving around, we saw some very interesting fast food chains.

We like to learn about the culture of destinations we visit and heard about a very interesting half-day trip option. We decided to book a visit to the EKASUP Cultural Village. Continue reading A Visit To The EKASUP Cultural Village On Vanuatu

A Family Day Trip To South Sea Island, Fiji

an island in the ocean

In the summer of 2017 the Michael W Travels family spent 5 Weeks In The Pacific.

During our trip, we had many flights in and out of Fiji. We wanted to check out some of the outer islands of the country. (Find out about how we saved around $300 for 1.5 hours of our time.)

A short time-share pitch got us a free trip to South Sea Island, Fiji! Continue reading A Family Day Trip To South Sea Island, Fiji

Over the summer the Michael W Travels family spent 5 weeks in the Pacific.

During our trip we visited Tonga, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Samoa, American Samoa and Vanuatu. I took a solo trip for less than a day to Christmas Island, Kiribati.

While we used lots of airline miles and some hotel points to greatly bring down the cost of this adventure, when you’re away for over a month, things still add up. Continue reading How We Saved Around $300 In Fiji For 1.5 Hours Of Our Time

What Did We Try At McDonald’s American Samoa?

a fast food restaurant with cars parked on the sideWhile I rarely dine at McDonald’s, I always try to do so when visiting a new country. The main reason is to see what unique, local menu items might be available.

In the summer of 2017, the Michael W Travels family spent 5 weeks in the Pacific. We visited a bunch of island nations in the region and had a really great time. McDonald’s didn’t have locations in all of the places we visited but we did have a meal at McD’s in Fiji and Samoa. Continue reading What Did We Try At McDonald’s American Samoa?

9.5 Hours on Christmas Island, Kiribati

Christmas IslandWhile working on the itinerary for our 5 week trip around the Pacific, I wanted to try to get a taste of a bunch of the island nations in the region.

The Pacific has around a dozen UN recognized countries, each made up of many islands.

One place that I hoped to visit was Kiribati. I was able to place an award flight on hold for Kim, Lucas and I (Theo flies as a lap baby) to the capital, Tarawa. The problem was that if we booked the flight, we’d be stuck on Tarawa for 4 days. This would’ve definitely been too much time to commit to an island with not a lot of things to do.

Then I got another idea from a friend. Continue reading 9.5 Hours on Christmas Island, Kiribati

Our Visit To The Solomon Islands with Kids

While planning our 5 Week Trip to the Pacific, one country that we’d be visiting seemed far different than the others.

The Solomon Islands is most famous for and mainly visited due to its wealth of World War II sites. While I’m no WWII history buff, I do enjoy the topic. It also just so happened that our visit coincided with a big event, the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal. Continue reading Our Visit To The Solomon Islands with Kids
