So I Booked A Flight After JetBlue Apocalypse

jetblue flightsA couple of weeks back I wrote of big changes coming to JetBlue in 2015.

The title of my post- JetBlue To Charge For Terra Blues Chips wasn’t what I’d call a serious one. I used it symbolically to highlight the impending changes and destruction of the things that made the airline stand out.

You can also check out a follow-up in which JetBlue Responds To My Terra Blues Post. Continue reading So I Booked A Flight After JetBlue Apocalypse

Change of Heart, Heading to Oktoberfest Tomorrow!

a map with a red circle

No, not that Oktoberfest in Munich- it ended a little over a week back.

Over the past month or so I’ve written some posts about our time at Oktoberfest. This made me really feel Oktoberfest-sick (kinda like homesick but for the festival).

With Kim and I having some time off from work I started to look into various options. We were only considering domestic trips. I also came up with two criterion for picking a place. Continue reading Change of Heart, Heading to Oktoberfest Tomorrow!

Vegas: 100K Delta Miles or 37000 Southwest Points

This past Thursday Kim and I headed to Las Vegas for BAcon, the BoardingArea conference.

Getting to Vegas became a bit of a challenge due to a couple of factors. The start/ end times and dates of the conference didn’t seem to agree with flights out of the NYC area. Purchasing a flight wasn’t an option since they would cost a small fortune (and we don’t like to pay for flights unless it seems to be a really awesome deal). Trip Planning: Back to The Balkans

a map of a country

Each year I look forward to our end of summer break when we usually take one of our biggest trips of the year.

Last year we headed to the Balkans. It was the first time for us visiting this region of the world and we enjoyed our trip very much.  We visited 4 countries (although one of them is a disputed territory)- Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania.

After the trip, I knew that I wanted to go back to the area at some point. While considering places to go this year I kept thinking about last summer’s trip. I decided to look into the possibility of seeing 2-3 more of these interesting countries.

When I started to look into some ideas, I was happily surprised to find flights available using my AAdvantage miles to exactly where I wanted to go, although not on the exact dates. Continue reading Trip Planning: Back to The Balkans

Altering Our Summer Plans Due to MH-17 Tragedy

a map of the country

When news started coming in a couple of weeks back about the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flight 17, I didn’t know exactly what to feel. My first thought was something like not again. I also wondered about the people onboard and learned about quite a few of them while reading (pretty much) whatever I could related to the disaster.

The idea of a plane being downed by a missile is such a scary thought, probably worse than a plane malfunction or weather causing an accident. Its crazy to think that the war in Ukraine could impact people that had absolutely nothing to do with their problems. Sad…

A couple of days after this tragedy I started to wonder about our upcoming trip in August and how these events could potentially affect us.  Continue reading Altering Our Summer Plans Due to MH-17 Tragedy

$348.65 + 71,906 Points= Trip For 3: Air, Hotel & Car Rental

a map of a road

With our most recent trip being planned last-minute (and during the trip), I didn’t have the time to write a trip-planning post. However, I still wanted to share all of the details now that the trip has come to an end.

Earlier in the year, Kim, Lucas and I set out on A Quick Euro-Roadtrip where we got a taste of 3 Countries In 4.5 Days. I can’t say that I love driving but I did enjoy this trip since it was quite different than the norm for us. While thinking about where to go during our end of school year break I kept focusing on Missouri. I’ve been wanting to visit St Louis and Kansas City for a while and this seemed to be the perfect time. Continue reading $348.65 + 71,906 Points= Trip For 3: Air, Hotel & Car Rental

Trip Planning: Dominican Republic

a map of the country

Back in November I heard about Black Friday & Cyber Monday deals for a couple of all-inclusives in the Dominican Republic through CheapCaribbean.com.

Although I am not a relax on the beach or all-inclusive kind of traveler, for the low price deals being offered it seemed worth looking into. (Kim enjoys these kinds of trips at times, so I figured I’d try to book one of the deals.)

For me, it was about the deal and getting to visit another country (although I doubt I will see much where we are going).

I passed on the Black Friday option since the dates weren’t good for us and decided to book the Cyber Monday deal to Puerto Plata. Continue reading Trip Planning: Dominican Republic

Atlanta Trip Planning

a close-up of a map

A couple of weeks back we went to Atlanta over the holiday weekend. The first question we kept getting was- why Atlanta? My reasoning was no different than most of our other trips: Why not? The two main things I wanted to do were to check out another baseball stadium, Turner Field- home of the Atlanta Braves. And secondly,  just to visit a new state (although we only got to visit one city in Georgia).

Putting together our trip was relatively easy and cheap thanks to miles & points. Without miles & points I doubt that we would’ve taken this trip at all. It woud have been a pretty costly long weekend.

During our trip, the weather in Atlanta was really nice. It was pretty hot but with little humidity- making for some pretty comfortable weather. We did get caught in the rain heading back from the Braves game during our last day but it didn’t mess up our plans!

We’re Heading Back To Europe: Milan & Malta

Screen Shot 2014-04-12 at 1.06.21 AMThis year we started booking our Spring trip a bit earlier than usual thanks to an incredible mistake airfare deal through Norwegian airline Wideroe. We got in on 3 trips to Europe at incredible prices due to this error.

In January we went to Oslo, Norway and the following month we went on a Quick Euro-Road Trip, visiting 3 countries in 4.5 days.

For our third Wideroe trip I decided to book a flight to Milan. Milan was consistently showing the cheapest mistake fares during the 48 hours or so that the offer was available.

The Verdict: Hey United, I Want My $158+ Back

Oslo Map

After quite a few e-mails, posts and a physical letter being sent, my dispute with United has finally come to an end.

Back in January we were on our first trip of the new year in Oslo, Norway. Despite the chilly weather, we had a great time and really enjoyed our visit. Our one complaint was not having enough time to check out more of the country.

Due to an approaching winter storm back at home our flight was cancelled. Rather than head to the airport, I called United through Skype. We got re-ticketed for the following morning without a problem. When I asked who was responsible for our accommodations, I was told (quite rudely) that we were . I got off the phone and quickly booked a hotel and then Kim and I set out some plans for the day. Why not enjoy our extra day in Oslo!
