And The Winner of the FoundIt! Giveaway Is…

a piece of cardboard with writing on it

Last week I wrote a post about FoundIt!– a company that makes little stickers and tags that you place on valuables. If you lose an item with a sticker, hopefully the “finder” will either go to the FoundIt! site or text the unique number to set up a reunion with the item’s owner.

Not only did the kind folks at FoundIt! offer me a subscription to try out, they also offered a subscription for me to give away to one of my readers.

A couple of ways to enter were by following me on Twitter and Facebook. I want to thank everyone that signed up. (Thanks to everyone following me prior to the contest too!)

Before announcing the winner, I want to remind everyone to check back for my post about my FoundIt! Test. I have been “losing” items in random places and giving them a little time to (hopefully) find their way home. I even “lost” a set of keys at a rest stop on the way home from my recent Lakes to Locks & Saratoga trip!

I also want to thank FoundIt! again for reaching out and offering a subscription to myself and one of my readers!

And the winner is … Delta Gold Flyer
a Rafflecopter giveaway

Congrats to Delta Gold Flyer!!! I’ll be contacting you to get the info needed to get you your FoundIt! subscription.

I want to thank everyone for participating in my contest.

FoundIt! Tags and One Year Membership Giveaway

a black and white logo

Don’t forget to check out the FoundIt! Giveaway at the end of the post!

Around a year ago I bought a Track It Back sticker to count as a hit towards the US Airways Grand Slam. The idea of the sticker is to place it on valuables- camera, passport, luggage tag and if you lose something hopefully the person that finds it will see the Track It Back sticker and use it to get in touch with the owner.

I never ended up using my sticker and did not care much since the intended purpose was for that Grand Slam hit. About 6 months back I read that Track It Back went out of business, making my stickers completely worthless.
While away in Bali I was doing some blog reading and came across an interesting post on blog Deals We Like. The post was called Trade in your Track It Back Stickers. This caught my attention. According to the post IDstickers.com was willing to let people trade in their Track It Back stickers for their IDstickers

I figured that it was worth a shot and I planned to follow up on this offer when I got home .
I left a comment on the Deals We Like post regarding this.
A couple of days later I received an e-mail from FoundIt!, another site offering a similar service to Track It Back. They had seen my comment on the Deals We Like post and felt that their product would be great for me due to all of the travel that I do. They offered me a membership to try out the service.

I decided to look into FoundIt!. I first read over their site and then watched a short video from a trade show. The product looked pretty solid and worth trying out. I let FoundIt! know that I would take them up on their offer and try the product out. I had nothing to lose (unless a lost item with a FoundIt! tag did not get returned to me!)

When I got home from Southeast Asia my FoundIt! package was waiting for me. My packet came with one luggage tag, three key (or bag) tags and a sheet of stickers.

Invalid request error occurred.
Stickers & Tags
(FoudIt! press photo)

Here is a quick explanation of how FoundIt! works:

  1. When you sign up for FoundIt! you provide your cell phone # and e-mail address
  2. Place your tags/ stickers on items
  3. If you lose an item and it’s found, the “finder” reports the lost item to the FoundIt! system (they can report it by texting or through the FoundIt! website)
  4. You receive text & e-mail FoundIt! alerts
  5. You connect with finder to work out getting your stuff back

The service sounds simple and easy to use. I just wonder if people will a) pay any attention to the FoundIt! tags and stickers and b) be kind enough to return lost items???

To find out these answers I plan to run a test. I am going to “lose” a few items that I’ve placed tags on and see what happens. So far my list includes a set of keys, some sort of old electronic device (maybe a camera) and one other item that I have yet to determine. I think that the keys have a good shot at being returned since they have no real value to the finder. I don’t have high hopes that an electronic device will be returned. Suggestions for another item to “lose” are welcome!

Keep reading to find out what happens! And now for the giveaway…

FoundIt! Giveaway:
The kind folks over at FoundIt! were nice enough to offer me the opportunity to try out their product. They also wanted to let one of my readers try it out with a one year membership!

  • 38 stickers which include- 4 glasses stickers, 4 plastic tags (keychain, bag tags and a luggage tag)

Contest: I’m Giving Away A SCOTTEVEST Travel Vest

a red triangle with black text
***Make sure to check out the contest below!

Last week I wrote about some exciting news regarding my relationship with travel clothing company SCOTTEVEST.

I’ve had a chance to use some great gear provided to me by SCOTTEVEST. A couple of my favorite items are the Fleece 5.0 (check out my review here) and Ultimate Cargo Pants
I’ve been using the cargo pants all summer (wearing them converted to shorts) and got a ton of use out of them on my trip to South Dakota.

For my upcoming trip to Southeast it’s going to be way to hot to wear my Fleece 5.0 so the kind folks at SCOTTEVEST offered Kim and I a SeV Travel Vest. The vest looks and fits amazing and the pockets will definitely come in handy at the airports (we’ll be visiting quite a few during our trip). Some of the pockets on the Travel Vest will probably be used in an unexpected way- to store some of Lucas’ baby  gear!

Some features on the SeV Travel Vest:
  • 24 Pockets- pretty much an extra carry on
  • Lightweight poly-fabric
  • Teflon treated- to be water and stain resistant
  • Deep pockets- one can even hold an iPad!
a blue vest with various objects on it

Kim and I can not wait to go on our next adventure and bring the SeV Travel Vest along!

SCOTTEVEST has been very kind to Michael W Travels and is sponsoring a contest on my blog. SeV and Michael W Travels will be giving away a SeV Travel Vest to one lucky reader!!!

Fodor’s: Best Compact Cameras for Summer & Camera Giveaway

several different cameras
(Photo from Fodors article)
Fodor’s blog has an article featuring what they call the “Best Compact Cameras For Summer”.
I’m always interested in hearing about new cameras and technology and this article does mention some pretty cool, new cameras.
At the end of the article there is a sweepstakes where you can win a Sony Digital Camera. More on that later on!
The article features five cameras. According to the author, these cameras can do things that your old one could not do. They differ in how and where you are physically able to take your pictures.
Here are the cameras:
  1. Nikon Coolpix S1200PJ– Shine your images onto a wall with the built in projector
  2. Casio Tryx– Swing the camera’s frame and twist it’s screen, allowing you to extend your reach, hang it or stand it on it’s own for self portraits. There are also a couple of new ways to set the timer.
  3. Samsung MultiView MV800– Lets you angle the screen low or high to make it easier to get difficult shots. It also has bunch of different editing features built in.
  4. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20– Small and waterproof (up to 16 feet), dustproof and shockproof. Can take 10 shots per second as well as some other nice shooting features.
  5. Kodak EasyShare Touch M5370– Great for sharing photos by tagging and hitting the share button. This allows you to print and/ or send to friends by e-mail or social feeds the next time you connect the camera to your computer.
The cameras all have some interesting features but I am most interested in the Sony Cyber-shot. Kim and I have a camera that is water proof/ dustproof/ shockproof but the picture quality is not the best. I love having a waterproof camera for snorkeling and other water related activities.

It just so happens that Fodor’s is giving away a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX20

You can enter the contest up to four times:

  1. “Like” Fodor’s on Facebook
  2. Follow @FodorsTravel on Twitter
  3. Tweet a message:  “Travel Tech: Best Compact Cameras for Summer + sweepstakes http://bit.ly/Jzxz31 via @fodorstravel”
  4. Leave a comment on the Fodor’s  post answering the question: Where will you be snapping vacation photos this summer?

Contest Ends May 23, 2012
Open to legal residents of the United States & DC
Must be 18 or older at time of entry
ARV: $330

Entries must be received by May 23, 2012
