One of our bigger trips of the year usually take place during Spring Break.

Last year we visited the amazing country- Myanmar (Burma). For 2016 we were supposed to visit Fiji and Vanuatu but we had to cancel our plans.

Kim is currently grounded from flying while pregnant with Baby W Travels! However, this doesn’t mean that Lucas and I can’t sneak away for a quick trip! Continue reading Lucas & I Are Going On Our 1st Father Son Trip!

Proposed Bill Can Make Flying with Kids Easier & Cheaper

flying with kids

Flying with kids isn’t easy and it can also be costly, even if you’re using miles.

Various fees can make a bargain ticket go up in price. (Think checked luggage fees and paying to pre-select seats etc…)

When you’re flying with kids, the last thing you want to worry about is sitting next to your kid and now a proposed new bill might change this for the better. Continue reading Proposed Bill Can Make Flying with Kids Easier & Cheaper

AA Responds to My Request to Waive Award Ticket Cancellation Fee

AA Award

I recently shared some exciting news about why I had to cancel our flights to Fiji and Vanuatu which were booked with AA miles.

When you cancel an AA award you are given time to rebook your trip or you can pay a fee to have your miles redeposited into your account.

At the moment our tickets can still be rebooked but with the time window allowed for this, its highly unlikely that we’ll be able to do so. Continue reading AA Responds to My Request to Waive Award Ticket Cancellation Fee

Canceled AA Award to Fiji & Vanuatu, What Happened to My Miles?

AA Award

Yesterday I wrote about an AA award flight to Fiji and Vanuatu that I had to cancel for a great reason. While it was painful at first to cancel the booking, I am totally cool with it…

Some of you might wonder- what happened to the tickets or miles since I cancelled our flight? Continue reading Canceled AA Award to Fiji & Vanuatu, What Happened to My Miles?

Canceled An AA Award to Fiji & Vanuatu- Find Out Why!

AA award

Kim, Lucas and I take lots of trips each year. We usually fly to destinations around 8-10 times (per year). Of those trips, 2-3 are what I’d consider bigger trips.

Last year we went to Myanmar over spring break. We visited four Mid-East Gulf States during the summer. (I’ve written some trips reports about each of the destinations mentioned but slacked off and didn’t finish…)

When the school year began I only had a couple of trips being planned and I started talking about where to go in the spring of 2016. Continue reading Canceled An AA Award to Fiji & Vanuatu- Find Out Why!

Diggerland USA Construction Theme Park Adds Adult Option!

Diggerland
From our visit in 2014

In the summer of 2014, Kim, Lucas and I visited Diggerland USA, an awesome construction theme park located in West Berlin, New Jersey.

Lucas had a great time and since visiting the park, he’s asked to go back many times but we haven’t had a chance.

While the park appeals to families, the attractions are still geared towards little ones. However, a new attraction should have many adults wanting to visit too! Continue reading Diggerland USA Construction Theme Park Adds Adult Option!

Did American Airlines Compensate Us For Breaking Our Stroller?

American Airlines

Back in September, Kim, Lucas and I headed off on a trip to Grenada.

Along the way we had some issues with American Airlines due to switched flights and a broken stroller.

We flew from New York’s LaGuardia  Airport to Miami before heading off for our final destination. Upon arrival in Miami, I noticed that something was wrong with our stroller and it turned out that it had gotten broken along the way.

I filed a report at the airport and hoped) that AA would do right by us and cover the cost to replace our stroller. Continue reading Did American Airlines Compensate Us For Breaking Our Stroller?

Lucas recently turned four years old and he’s already visited 30 countries.

During his travels, he’s flown over 192,000 miles and 120 segments on 29 carriers.

When you’re flying with an infant or a toddler, it definitely makes things easier when the airline lets you board early… This has usually been the case for us but a couple of airlines stand out as they don’t have this policy.

However, now one of the airlines is changing their policies and getting a bit more family-friendly! Continue reading Great News For Families Flying United

30 Countries Before 4: Happy BDay Lucas- The Most Traveled Child!

Family travel

Today is a very important day for us over at Michael W Travels headquarters.

Our favorite little guy, Lucas Miles is celebrating his 4th birthday! There’s been lots of celebrating so far. Friday we had a little party in school and yesterday was his big party with a Thomas the Train and cupcake baking theme! Tonight, we’ll take Lucas out to end the festivities.

Lucas is really an amazing little boy. He’s quite curious and loves to fly and explore more than ever. During trips he’s enjoyed learning a few local words which brings a smile to all. He learned how to say hello and thank you in Myanmar and during our recent trip to Cuba, he picked up a bunch of words in Spanish. Continue reading 30 Countries Before 4: Happy BDay Lucas- The Most Traveled Child!

Trip Planning: We’re Going to Cuba!

Cuba

2015 has been another great year of travel for the Michael W Travels family. We visited lots of new places and had many wonderful experiences.

We’ll be ending the year by visiting a destination I’ve long wanted to visit- Cuba!

I first thought about going to Cuba when I worked at CBS News. The show I worked on, 60 Minutes II had done a segment about Cuba called La Isla De Musica. Seeing footage of the island made me want to get there at some point. Continue reading Trip Planning: We’re Going to Cuba!
