How do you decide where to go on your next trip?

Do you pick a place based on a mistake airfare deal or award flight availability? Maybe you have a mental list of places you’ve always wanted to go and just work your way through it. Could it be that some of you close your eyes, spin the globe and see where you point to? Not likely on that last option!

When deciding where we go on trips, there are a bunch of variables we look at.

I put a good amount of thought into where I should travel with my family. I look at maps quite a bit to get a better idea of where we’ve been and try to see what holes we need to fill. I’d like to think our travels are pretty well-rounded although there are a bunch of areas that we really need to get out and explore.

On occasion a mistake airfare might dictate to an extent where we go which can be a lot of fun. Another major consideration is award flight availability. I feel like when I get an idea in my head, I usually find the flights I need. However, I usually come up with a few backup destinations just in case.

Lonely Planet came up with a way to figure out What Your Travel Destiny Is for 2015. All you have to do is answer some questions in their Best in Travel Quiz to find out where you should go.

While I doubt the quiz will dictate where we go, it might give some good ideas. Besides, I tend to enjoy these quizzes regardless.

I think Namibia would be a great choice if Kim and I hadn’t already gone there.  The country is quite different than what most would generally think about Africa. Think sand dunes, some adventure activities, deep canyons and of course there are also safaris!
