Last week I mentioned that Lucas and I were going away on a Father- Son Trip.

We got back later last night from a visit to Pittsburgh, PA. I know it doesn’t sound like a glamorous destination but we had a great time. There’s lots of excellent museums, it’s a great sports town and those bridges make for awesome photos!

During Spring Break 2016 Lucas and I went on our first Father- Son trip to Poland. The trip was a great experience and we followed up with 3 trips together in 3 weeks since Kim was pregnant with Theo (and not traveling).

I didn’t expect it this summer, but Lucas and I will head off on another (domestic) Father- Son trip this week! Nothing exotic but to a city I’ve long wanted to check out, primarily for their baseball stadium.

It’s been a busy week here. We’ve made a lot of progress with plans for our big Pacific Islands trip which we’ll be leaving for in about 3 weeks. We still need to finish booking some hotels and then we’ll be good to go.

After some debate, I decided to apply for the Hyatt card before the 2 free-nights bonus went away. Chase called me for more info before getting approved. Talk about an odd conversation! (Maybe I’ll share it in a future post.)

I finally finished booking all of the flights we’ll need for our summer trip to the Pacific. We’ll be doing a lot of flying to get to some awesome destinations. Next up-  starting to book our hotels.

I recently got a new credit card and I’m already thinking about what to get next. With the annual fee soon coming up on my American Express Platinum card, I decided to apply for the Amex Blue Business card (which I was instantly approved for). The signup bonus isn’t huge but it buys me some time to decide what to do with my Membership Rewards points.

Planning for our summer trip wasn’t looking good but then I started finding award availability for various flights around the region we’ll be visiting. It’s been frustrating using American Airlines miles over the past year or so but for this trip, they seem to be coming up big!

It finally feels like summer here in NYC. Over the weekend we were quite busy heading to some parks and checking out some new (to us) restaurants. We found a new place to go for an awesome burger as well as another great place to go for pizza. Win win…

Otherwise, I’m considering getting the Marriott Business credit card since I received a direct mailer. I’m not sure if the card falls under Chase’s 5/24 rule. Do you know?

It’s been a slow week here when it comes to miles, points and travel. (I might still be coming down from the high of booking our flights to the South Pacific with AA miles for this summer.)

I finished the minimum spend on my newest credit card and am working on finishing the spend on a bonus for another card. Once this is done, I’ll be on the hunt for a new card. What will it be? I was close to giving up on the idea I had for our summer trip due to a lack of American Airlines award availability. (Maybe it wasn’t really their fault this time…)

However, I kept checking and was able to get award flights for us to the South Pacific! The summer is fast approaching and I’ve been thinking a lot about what the Michael W Travels family will do (and more importantly, where we will go).

One of the main parts of a successful summer trip for us, is using some of our stockpile of American Airlines miles. I had no luck for a few weeks but never gave up trying.
