Over the past 4 weeks, 22 million Americans have filed for unemployment according to CNN. The coronavirus pandemic and social distancing protocols is decimating businesses.
Earlier today, I received the BoardingArea weekly e-mail which highlights some of the week’s most interesting posts where I was happy to read, “Why View From The Wing Will Still Be Here – No Matter How Bad The Recession Gets.” Gary has always added a ton to the miles and points space, basically forever so this is great news.
Now, I want to share super important Breaking News!
Michael W Travels won’t be going anywhere!!!!
I’ve read how bad things are getting for full-time bloggers like Nomadic Matt and Gary mentioned in his post how bloggers (sites) with staffs (like Frequent Miles and One Mile At A Time) are still paying them. That’s an awesome gesture and hopefully they can get by during these tough times and continue to do so.
The thing with my blog is that it’s just that , a blog. I started it back in October 2011 (when my wife was pregnant with my now 8 year-old son Lucas) as a hobby to stay involved in travel during a time that we couldn’t travel.
I was super-excited when I was invited to join the BoardingArea network and officially joined on August 2013.
While I make some ad revenue from my blog, it certainly isn’t much or enough to pay the bills. This site was never created as a business idea or a way to stop working…
For those of you that don’t know, I’m a teacher for the New York City Department of Education. While I lost this year’s Spring Break, I still have my job and am (luckily) still getting paid.
In terms of finances, nothing has changed around here. In fact, I actually have more time to work on my blog and I’m having my best month of traffic (it’s only mid- April) in over a year! Yay!
So there you have it, Michael W Travels is here to stay! 🙂
I hope that you are all staying inside, socially distancing and doing the best to get by during these tough times…
