Brooklyn Bridge Park offers lots of things to do for all ages. It’s a great place for families to visit.
There’s a bunch of playgrounds, Jane’s Carousel, lots of lawns to relax on and let’s not forget about those great views of NYC and the Brooklyn Bridge & Manhattan Bridge.
There’s also a lot of excellent food options in the area. Famous pizzerias like Grimaldi’s and Juliana’s are close by. There’s also Shake Shack and the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.
Over the summer, you can also add free hot dogs to the list of food options on weekends at Brooklyn Bridge Park thanks to the Public Art Fund and the Hot Dog Bus.
Gothamist reports that, “A Volkswagen Bus that vaguely resembles the shape of a lumpy hot dog will be giving out free frankfurters every weekend in Brooklyn Bridge Park this summer.”
Artist Erwin Wurm took a Volkswagen Microbus and turned it “into an overstuffed, bright yellow food truck“, according to the Public Art Fund.
This isn’t the first time that Wurm’s VW served food to the public. In 2015 it debuted as Curry Bus at the Museum of Wolfsburg in Germany. Currywurst, a traditional German fast food sausage was served, hence the name Curry Bus!
Through August 16, the Hot Dog Bus can be found at Pier 1 on Saturdays and Pier 5 on Sundays. Free hot dogs will be given out between the hours of 12:00pm- 6:00pm or until they run out.
I’m planning to check out the Hot Dog bus and get a free hot dog before the summer ends. Are you interested in checking it out?
