I was particularly interested in checking out the newest list, World Wonders 2015 featuring the 25 Top World Landmarks!
It’s always fun to check out these lists to see just how many of these top sites/ destinations I’ve been to.
While looking over the Top 25 Landmarks list, I wasn’t so surprised that I had visited many of them over the years.
Here is TripAdvisor’s list of World Wonders 2015: (I’ve bolded the one’s I’ve visited)
- Angkor Wat
- Machu Picchu
- Taj Mahal
- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
- La Sagrada Familia
- St. Peter’s Basilica
- Milan Cathedral
- Alcatraz
- Cristo Redentor
- Golden Gate Bridge
- Eiffel Tower
- Church of the Savior on Blood
- Notre Dame Cathedral
- The Alhambra
- Hagia Sophia
- Charles Bridge
- Great Wall at Mutianyu
- Lincoln Memorial
- Burj Khalifa
- The National September 11 Memorial
- Wat Pho
- Chichen Itza
- Sydney Opera House
- Petronas Twin Towers
- Panama Canal
So far I’ve been to 19/25 of these World Wonders. I could probably even say that I’ve been to a 20th wonder. During my trip to Dubai in 2009 I drove by the Burj Khalifa many times with a cab driver even driving onto the construction site so I could get an extremely close-up look. Either way, I’ll be visiting the Burj Khalifa in August as well as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
From this list of wonders, it would be hard to pick favorites although I would have to agree with the top two picks! If I could add one site/ area, I’d select Bagan, Myanmar. My guess is that it doesn’t qualify since it is made up of over 2,000 temples.

Alex- That is a good one which I still need to visit! After looking over the list again, I have a few more that are worthy of inclusion- Petra, Cappadocia & the Moai on Easter Island.
I’m surprised the Parthenon isn’t on this list. It’s still pretty impressive.
DL & Richard- Khajuraho looks pretty impressive!
Totally agree about Khajuraho.
Hari- Akshardham looks pretty impressive. Thanks for the tip!
Khajuraho in India beats Angkor Wat any day of the week if you ask me
When you go to india, you MUST go to the Dehli Akshardham. (www.Akshardham.com) there is a full day worth of things to see there! From exhibits about india’s achievements via boat ride, to an Imax film produced specially for the venue, To a monument made by hand carved marble. Check it out!
