Earlier in the week (or some might say, last year) I wrote about the 10 most tagged destinations on Instagram in 2014. Many of the most tagged destinations weren’t what I’d consider overly exciting places. To me they are more like popular places for meeting up.
While I love baseball, I wouldn’t expect two stadiums to be among the most tagged destinations in the world. Nor would I consider shopping malls to be either…
Either way, it was interesting to see which places ranked at the top on Instagram.
On a similar theme, USA Today shared 2014’s most popular destinations, according to Facebook.
USA Today got the info from Facebook’s annual Year in Review feature.
When talking about most popular destinations, Facebook was referring to places in the U.S., not throughout the world. The information was collected through its check-in feature which “lets users share their location with their feed” according to USA Today.
The Top 10:
- Disney Parks– including Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Epcot, Disney’s California Adventure and Disney’s Animal Kingdom
- Universal Studios Hollywood
- Times Square
- Yosemite National Park
- Grand Canyon National Park
- Yellowstone National Park
- Yankee Stadium
- Las Vegas Strip
- Hollywood Walk of Fame
- Madison Square Garden
While looking over this list, there weren’t loads of surprises here. With Disney being so popular it made sense to rank at the top for most popular destination in the US.
It was also nice to see a few National Parks make the list.
Again, a couple of sports stadiums placed at the top but it made more sense on this list. The Yankees play 81 home games per year or more and consistently pack the House that Ruth built. As for MSG, with tenants like the Knicks and Rangers along with loads of concerts and other shows, I’m surprised it didn’t rank higher up.
When comparing Facebook and Instagram’s lists, there were a few places that appeared on both lists like Disneyland, Times Square, Yankee Stadium and MSG.
